Angelina Jolie has revealed the one question a hitman asked her that ultimately saved her life.
The actress, now 49, has previously discussed a period in her life when she pondered hiring a stranger to murder her.
Angelina stated that she thought it would be simpler for her family to accept her death if they assumed she had committed suicide.
“This is going to sound insane, but there was a time I was going to hire somebody to kill me,” she told the website IMDb in 2001.
She subsequently revealed how she discovered the hitman, telling The Face in 2003: “They’re not that difficult to locate in New York. Many young individuals ponder suicide, despite the absurdity of the idea. I was acutely aware that many people around me, including my mother, would feel as if they had not given up or done enough if I committed suicide.
“My solution to that was that if someone else had taken my life—like in a ‘robbery’—then it would be considered murder, and no one would feel they’d let me down.”
Jolie claimed that she had planned to remove funds from her account in regular increments so that she wouldn’t take out a significant sum all at once.
However, everything changed when the hitman she was about to hire asked a question that saved her life.
“He was a decent enough person and asked if I could think about it and call him again in two months,” she told me. “Something changed in my life, and I figured I’d stick it out.”
Jolie went on to become one of Hollywood’s greatest celebrities, and she now has six children: Maddox, 22, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, whom she shares with ex Brad Pitt.
Pitt and Jolie met in the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, in which they both appear.
They married in 2014 but announced their separation in 2016.
Shiloh, their daughter, has filed a court petition to formally drop her father’s last name.
She follows her 15-year-old sister Vivienne, who recently gained recognition for her role as ‘Vivienne Jolie’ in the musical The Outsiders.
Her older sister, Zahara, 19, appears to have unofficially ditched the surname Pitt, presenting herself as Zahara Marley Jolie after joining the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College in 2023.
However, it is unclear if Zahara and Vivienne have formally discarded the name Pitt.
