While several school choirs may fade into the background, the Frensham Madrigals emerge as a remarkable ensemble, especially with their stunning performance of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” This British choir, founded in 1964 by Michael Howard, a music educator at Frensham Heights School in Surrey, England, focuses on Renaissance and early Baroque music, particularly madrigals. The group, which consists of roughly 20 to 25 students from the institution, has received attention for their outstanding performances and unique repertoire.
During one of their school festivals, which included the vocal talents of Charlotte Nicholls and Katie Lee, the Frensham Madrigals demonstrated why they are so well-known. Their decision to perform Queen’s classic hymn “Bohemian Rhapsody” delighted onlookers.
Originally published over five decades ago, “Bohemian Rhapsody” remains a magnificent masterwork by Queen. The tune, based on Freddie Mercury’s solo work in the late 1960s, took the band three weeks to record, resulting in a genuinely creative and magnificent song.
The Frensham Madrigals’ rendition of this timeless classic is nothing short of outstanding, reflecting their countless awards in contests throughout the years.
