Trump faces ridicule as shocking footage appears to show him ‘cheating’ on the golf course

Donald Trump is under fire online for supposedly ‘cheating’ on the golf course.

It’s no secret that golf is the president’s favorite sport, since he owned more than a dozen golf clubs across the world before entering politics.

Since returning to the White House in January of this year, Trump has spent a significant amount of time away from the office on lavish golfing trips—at least 45 days out of 189 days this year—and in March, it was revealed that he had visited his favorite waterfront mansion in Florida six times in three months with his clubs at Mar-a-Lago.

However, the president is facing strong criticism after a leaked video of his recent game at his posh Turnberry club in Scotland purports to show him ‘cheating.’

In the video released on Twitter, Trump’s caddy is seen strolling slightly forward and seems to drop the ball behind him just as the president arrives while pushing his golf cart.

Dozens have subsequently flooded social media to share their thoughts on the clip, with the word ‘commander in chief’ rising to the top of trending topics.

“Trump’s golf game is as dishonorable as his political game,” remarked one critic on Twitter, and another said on Reddit, “Well if that isn’t a perfect metaphor.”

Meanwhile, many more claimed Trump is ignoring the domestic political maelstrom, particularly the sky-high cost of groceries, while on his four-day trip to the nation, which has so far featured two games of golf over the weekend with apparent trade negotiations in between.

Trump attended the course before meeting with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to discuss tariffs, where a US-EU trade agreement was eventually reached.

He is also scheduled to meet with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and First Minister John Swinney today (Monday, July 28), literally on the golf course, to discuss his ambitions to develop a second 18-hole golf course at his Menie estate in Aberdeenshire, as well as further trade arrangements.

This is not the first time the 79-year-old has been accused of playing unfairly. Rick Reilly, a novelist, investigates President Trump’s alleged deceit on the course in his book Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump.

According to the book’s author, “At Winged Foot, where Trump is a member, the caddies got so used to seeing him kick his ball back onto the fairway they came up with a nickname for him: Pele.”

Famous people, like Samuel L. Jackson and LPGA star Suzann Pettersen, have previously accused the president of cheating.

Trump has continually rejected the claims, and the White House has framed his visit to Scotland as a “working trip.”
