‘Dallas,’ the most popular primetime soap opera in television history, will always be a particular favorite of mine. In fact, I could watch the whole series again and again simply to see Victoria Principal.
Victoria, in her legendary portrayal as Pamela Barnes Ewing, was one of the main reasons to watch Dallas, along with Larry Hagman, who portrayed the ruthless oil magnate J. R. Ewing.
Victoria turned 73 today, and I believe you’ll be astonished when you see the newest images of this ageless beauty.
Victoria Principal, 73, has always been a multi-hyphenate: she was a successful actress, novelist, producer, and skin care entrepreneur over her lengthy professional career.
Perhaps her upbringing explains this: Victoria grew up in a number of locales and was always forced to adjust to her environment.
Victoria Ree Principal was born in Japan on January 3, 1950.
Victoria spent her first months of life in Japan since her father, a United States Air Force Sergeant, was stationed there.
Victoria and her mother were shuffled through a succession of United States Air Force bases during her youth. She was raised in locations including England, Puerto Rico, Massachusetts, and Florida, among others.
Victoria attended 17 different institutions throughout her early school years, including the prestigious Royal Ballet School in England.
It’s difficult to judge if her upbringing was joyful or not based on conflicting claims.
According to the Daily Mail, Victoria had a troubled relationship with her mother, Ree Principal. According to the newspaper, Victoria characterized her upbringing as “disappointing.” In a 2012 interview with the Huffington Post, Victoria was asked what she wished she had known earlier in her life:
“I wish I had known my childhood would come to an end,” she remarked.
On the other side, Victoria Prinicpal is credited with a well-known quote:
“I was quite fortunate. My parents raised me in such a manner that I never realized I wasn’t equal.”
What we do know is that Victoria began working at a young age. She got her first job in a television commercial when she was five years old.
When Victoria entered Miami-Dade Community College in 1968, it seemed that she would take an entirely different route.
She chose to pursue a career in medicine. Victoria would have probably become a doctor if things had gone her way.

However, destiny had other ideas for the young student.
Victoria was involved in a horrible accident only months before finishing her first year of college. She was critically hurt in a vehicle accident on her way home from the library one day. Victoria had to rest and recuperate for months.
Unfortunately, she lost critical months in college and was forced to repeat the first year of study.
Victoria then made the decision to significantly alter her life path. Instead, she relocated to New York City to pursue a career in acting.
Victoria went to Los Angeles in 1971 after working as an actress and model in New York and Europe. She chased significant cinematic roles on the west coast.
Finally, she got a role in John Huston’s western film The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean. Victoria played the mistress of Paul Newman’s major character, Roy Bean.
It was clear that she was gifted. Victoria was nominated for a Golden Globe for best newcomer, and her name was spoken much in Hollywood.
“People began inviting me to parties.” “I thought these people liked me, but I discovered I was just a hot meal ticket,” Victoria told folks.
Victoria struggled to find jobs that satisfied her after the success of The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean. Victoria’s confidence was shaken when her next picture, The Naked Ape, bombed.
“I wanted to succeed because I didn’t want to get hurt.” I started to find it difficult. “I became extremely protective of myself,” she said to People.
In 1974, she starred in the catastrophe film Earthquake, which was a major financial success at the time.
But halfway through the action flick Vigilante Force in 1975, Victoria realized something was badly wrong. She gave in to the pressure of striving to live up to a flawless image.
“I realized I was so unhappy that I didn’t want to live,” Victoria said.
She opted to study law instead of directing feature films. Between 1975 and 1977, she worked as a talent agent, which was a big relief for Victoria. Her whole life, the emphasis had been on her appearance and figure.
She was finally being acknowledged as an agent for what she could say or do.
Victoria initially became acquainted with the television series Dallas while working as an agent. She had previously been approached about returning to acting, but it wasn’t until she heard the screenplay for Dallas that she decided to shift her long-term goals.
“I’d quit acting to become an agent and was on my way to law school when a friend dropped off a Dallas script.” I knew my life had altered when I completed that portion; that portion was mine. So I contacted the casting director and told her, ‘I’m sending someone in.’ ‘Who?’ she inquired. ‘Just put my name down,’ I replied. It will come as a surprise. ‘ And it was really a surprise when I showed up with me! “I applied for it myself!” Victoria explained.
Victoria, as we all know, got the part of Pamela Barnes Ewing, and the rest is history.
Victoria predicted that Dallas would be a smash success.
“I had already fallen in love with the show and the part when I went in for the part on ‘Dallas,’ so my feeling from the moment I read it was that it was incredibly special and that I really, really wanted to be a part of it.” “I can’t imagine not being Pam,” she said. Victoria told People that she felt she was born for the part.
She negotiated her own deal with CBS, using all of her professional skills. This meant she was free to do anything she pleased while Dallas dominated the globe and captivated the hearts of millions.
“As a result, you can only notice in retrospect that I was the only person in the cast who did commercials, did movies of the week, and wrote books, and these all belong to me.” I kept control and ownership of my image. “No one owns me,” she said.
Dallas, which premiered in 1978, is unquestionably one of the finest television dramas of all time. It’s tough to put into words how popular Dallas was at the time; today’s youth would probably never grasp how one soap opera could become a worldwide phenomenon and matter to almost everyone on the planet.
The Ewings are a rich and feuding Texan family involved in the oil and cattle-ranching sectors.
When Dallas began, Victoria Principal was 28 years old, and she was a big reason why the show became a global success. Pamela Barnes Ewing, Bobby Ewing’s lovely wife and JR’s sister-in-law, became a childhood obsession for a whole generation.

Patrick was married and establishing a family when I began the program; Steve was married and starting a family; Larry was married with children; and Linda was married with children. I was by myself. “Those are very different lifestyles,” Victoria said to People.
Victoria Principal quit the popular television show in 1987.
There were several factors that influenced her decision.
“A great deal of effort has gone into keeping Victoria Principal apart from Pam Ewing.” “Any longer on the show would really seal my fate in the industry,” she told the New York Times in 1987.
Victoria turned down a lucrative deal that would have made her the highest-paid actress on television at the time.
“The first five years on Dallas were incredible — then some key writers left, and by year seven, there was a decline in the writing, which was a major factor in my decision to leave.” During renegotiations in the seventh year, I told the producers that I would only be staying for two more years. They sought a longer contract, but I refused. I was entirely honest. Playing Pam taught me a lot. She had an intrinsic kindness and was fearless in battling for what she believed in. “It was an honor to play her,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

Victoria announced her departure from her employer one year after the TV Insider interview.
“After 30 years in the skincare business and 28 years as President and Founder of Principal Secret, I will be stepping down to devote myself full time to my philanthropic work through The Victoria Principal Foundation for Thoughtful Existence and my rescue work with animals,” Principal said in a statement.
The former actress has shifted her concentration to charity, and her organization has made significant contributions throughout the years. For example, in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2018, she donated a fleet of rescue boats to the American Humane Society. She also contributed $25,000 to fire repair efforts in the wake of the 2018 California wildfires.
Private life
Victoria had the reputation of being a man-hunter throughout her career, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Victoria has been married and divorced twice, which is rather typical for a Hollywood celebrity.

The pair originally met in 1978 and only dated three times before marrying. The couple filed for divorce after two years.
Victoria said that her 75-hour-per-week work was too much for her young spouse.

Victoria dated English singer-songwriter Andy Gibb after her first marriage. It was a high-profile romance, but it was fraught with complications. Despite the couple’s tremendous chemistry and affection, Gibb’s lifestyle and addiction proved too much for Victoria.
“I did everything I could to help him, but then I told him he would have to choose between me and his problem,” Victoria stated after Gibb died in 1998.
Dr. Harry Glassman, a Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon, fell in love with Victoria in 1983. In 1985, the pair married in Dallas, Texas.
Many claimed that Victoria’s spouse “aided” her in staying youthful since she married a cosmetic surgeon. However, in a 2007 interview, Victoria denied using her husband’s services.
“I’ve never had a facelift. “Or maybe a professional peel or lasers,” she said.
Victoria Principal and Dr. Harry Glassman split in December 2006, with Principal declaring, “We have had a loving relationship for over 20 years.”
Victoria Principal had no children of her own, but she got close to Glassman’s two children from a previous relationship, Andrew and Brooke, during their marriage.

Victoria Principal is now 71 years old and quite active on social media. According to her Facebook profile, she spends a lot of time rehabilitating animals on her ranch outside of Los Angeles.
