Allison and Josh Lewis were a typical happy couple. They met while taking the same Bible study class at Samford University. They returned to Alabama after their wedding in 2000.

They planned their future, and when it came to children, they did not anticipate having more than three. Two or three is ideal. But what exactly does it say? Tell God about your goals if you want to make him laugh.

They had three children: Abby, Jack, and Isabelle; therefore, their plan had already been carried out. They felt the strength and desire to adopt a child at that point. Mika was adopted from Ethiopia in 2011, and Julia was born soon after.

So, you say, the idea was too ambitious. But the family found new strength in loving all of their children. Strangers, too. They wanted to become a viable option for women faced with the decision of whether to give birth or undergo an abortion. As a result, they sought another adoption.

The phone rang on Allison’s birthday, October 30. Their lawyer called to tell them that there is an adoptable infant in North Carolina. The parents did not know the gender of the kid, so they made up names on the way to receive a new family member. Eve is for a girl, whereas Sam is for a guy.

A lawyer contacted Allison on the way and inquired who was driving. After ensuring that her husband was driving, the lawyer informed her that they would be returning home with twins—a girl and a boy. The parents’ mouths fell open.

“But that’s not all,” she said, “the girl, the second of twins, was born with hydrocephalus – severe brain damage; the doctors had no idea she’d survive, and now they don’t give her any hope of survival.” They have no idea how much she has left… As a result, we will understand if you decline.

Allison and Josh, on the other hand, were on their way. Not only in a material sense. “She is our daughter,” they said emphatically. Eva had to remain in the hospital for a while since the transportation was unsafe for her, but her family members were eagerly waiting for her to return.

When the hospital’s director heard Eva’s tale, he prepared for a special van to bring her securely to her new home. Her brother was the one who missed her the most. For a half-year period, this young girl lived in a lovely household. Unfortunately, she died shortly after. Allison and Josh pray for Eve and say it was a very gratifying and tragic experience that taught them a lot about life, especially suffering.
