Charity Lockhart won Mel B’s Golden Buzzer with her performance of The Beatles’ “Golden Slumbers,” following a flop with “Over the Rainbow.”
Night three of America’s Got Talent’s Season 20 auditions included a range of noteworthy performances. One memorable one came from 49-year-old Charity Lockhart, who failed on her first try but was saved by Simon Cowell and earned Mel B’s Golden Buzzer.
“I adore singing and music, but I also love my children,” the mother of two stated. She joked, “I have two children. They’re little. One is 27, and the other is 21.”
Before she sang, Charity told a moving narrative about her early troubles as a divorced mother living in a vehicle with her two children.
“I had just my voice.” So I went to clubs and bars and asked live bands if I could sing with them,” she said. “They offered me a small sum of money at the end of the night, so I joined voice competitions. The amount was not as substantial as it seemed. It was a local competition, and we received a monetary prize. The financial award allowed us to afford our first flat.
Charity is now at AGT, seeking to win an even greater reward.

“You have definitely earned your place here,” Simon said. “After everything you have experienced, what is your current dream?”
“I want to keep singing and get a Grammy along the way,” she confidently said.
Mel B turned to Howie Mandel and said, “Me, too.”
Simon went on to say, “Charity, what I’ve learned over the years is that if you have skill, everything is now possible.” Yes, I do. We are honestly pulling for you right now.”
Mel B stated, “I hope the outcome is good.”
Simon concurred, saying, “I hope so, too.”
Charity started with an a cappella performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” but it was terrible. Simon interrupted her and stated, “I stopped you because I like you. But it just didn’t work for me. Do you have another song? Anything? I genuinely want you to succeed, but I understand that it comes with a lot of pressure. But come on, you can do it. Let us hear the other tune.”
“I will do my best, I promise,” Charity stated before performing The Beatles’ “Golden Slumbers.”
