While renovating, man discovers decades-old Christmas present inside his parents’ house, saying, ‘It had my name on it.’ Upon opening it, he experienced a profound shock…

An Illinois guy just found a buried treasure behind a wall in his boyhood house.

Tim King, the owner of T.King Construction Services in Lombard, told PEOPLE that while assisting his parents with a home remodeling job, he discovered a Christmas present with his name on it behind a bathroom wall.

“We took out a medicine cabinet before we drywalled, and I thought, ‘I’d better just look in there to make sure nothing’s back there,'” King, 53, told PEOPLE. “And then there it was!”

King shared his experience on Instagram on December 27 in a video that has over 35,000 likes as of January 4. In the video, King directs viewers to a position behind a bathroom wall before revealing a nicely wrapped present coated in dust. “#Christmasmiracle,” he captioned the image.

In a follow-up video, King opens the present and reveals the contents: a box of now-vintage Matchbox Thunder Jet model airplanes.

“My mom wasn’t awake yet, so we waited to open it in front of her,” he adds, adding that his mother had no memory of ever purchasing the present.

King recalls that his parents used to hide gifts in the attic, and the box most likely dropped into a crawl area without anybody knowing. He estimates that the item’s introduction occurred in 1978, when he would have been approximately 6 years old.

And how does King feel about the delayed discovery?

“So I have one sister, and my mom has always been very picky about getting us the exact same amount of gifts,” he shares, laughing, “so we’ve been joking that I’ve been screwed out of one present for 46 years.”
