Woman adopts 14-year-old mother and her 3 children and saves their lives…

NICU nurse Katrina Mullen faced an insurmountable challenge when trying to find a home for a 14-year-old mother who had just delivered triplets. Her incredible decision to adopt the teen mom, Shariya Small, and her babies has now garnered widespread attention, leaving thousands in awe of her life-saving act.

Katrina, known for her kindness, works as a newborn intensive care nurse at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. Her reputation for going above and beyond reached new heights when she adopted Shariya and her premature triplets, Serenitee, Samari, and Sarayah, born at just 26 weeks.

The bond between Katrina and Shariya developed during the babies’ five-month stay in the NICU, where the young mother often visited alone. Katrina, understanding the difficulty of finding a foster home for Shariya, officially adopted her and the triplets over two years after they first met.

Shariya, an eighth-grader when she delivered the triplets, initially kept her life private. However, a connection formed when she learned about Katrina’s own experience as a teenage mother who had given up a child for adoption. After their discharge, Katrina kept in touch, offering support and eventually fostering Shariya and the triplets for 688 days.

During this time, Katrina observed the challenging living conditions and health struggles of one of the triplets. When Shariya and the babies were removed from their home, Shariya expressed her desire to live with Katrina.

Katrina’s adoption of Shariya and the triplets is now complete. To support Shariya in providing for her growing family, Katrina initiated a GoFundMe campaign that has raised over $100,000.

The heartwarming stories of Katrina Mullen and others like Jerry Windle emphasize that becoming an adoptive parent requires a loving heart, and the challenges can be overcome with compassion and determination.
