Lauren Cohen of Paramus, New Jersey, welcomed a remarkable and unexpected addition to her family when she gave birth to male and female twins at the age of almost 60. This should have been a happy occasion for the mother of two, but she couldn’t have predicted her children’s conflicting emotions.
Lauren’s road to parenthood began at an older age when she met Frank Garcia during a dancing lesson in 2002. Despite a 20-year age difference, they fell in love at first sight. Their love journey culminated in their marriage in July of that year. It didn’t take Lauren long to see that Frank was ready to create a family.
Lauren’s age was a major factor in the couple’s difficulties in becoming parents. Multiple doctors rejected their attempts at in vitro fertilization. It wasn’t until January 2004 that a Virginia clinic agreed to their request. Despite four failed IVF attempts, the pair persisted. Raquel, their first child, was born in December 2004 via in vitro fertilization.

Lauren found out she was pregnant with twins less than a year later. She gave birth to twins, Gregory and Giselle, through in vitro fertilization using donor eggs in May 2006, just before her 60th birthday. This astounding achievement makes her the oldest mother in the United States to give birth to twins, a record she shares with an anonymous British woman who did the same on Christmas Day in 1993.
Lauren appreciated her job as a mother of three tiny children, but she also had the issue of being viewed as their grandma owing to her age, especially by her eldest daughter, Renee. Nonetheless, she and her husband were grateful for their three children and vowed to stay healthy so that their children could attend college. Lauren took significant precautions to keep in shape, including pilates and yoga, as well as roughly a hundred supplements monthly, with the goal of living long enough to see their graduation. She was resolved to keep going for another 17 years until she was 81.
Lauren Cohen’s tale exemplifies the extent to which parents will go for their children, as well as the undying love that transcends age and circumstances.
