A worker at Beigel’s Bakery in Canarsie, who was 33 years old, was found dead several hours after his body was discovered, and it took some time before the authorities were informed.
Early on Thursday morning, an employee of a bakery in Brooklyn was found dead inside a walk-in freezer after being locked inside the freezer.
Authorities responded to a complaint at 8:46 a.m. and located a 33-year-old male at Beigel’s Bakery in Canarsie who was “unconscious and unresponsive,” according to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for Public Information of the New York City Police Department.
The man reportedly became trapped in the freezer at around three in the morning, and when emergency personnel arrived at the bakery, they pronounced him dead at the scene. The New York Times reported this information.
According to a spokeswoman of the department who spoke with PEOPLE, “the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.”
“At this moment, the investigation is still ongoing. The identity of the dead person will not be revealed until the family has been notified.
Local station ABC 7 has identified the deceased person as Mahamadou Dansogo, who was from Mali and was a father of five children. The New York Times reports that the police believe the death to have been unintentional.

According to a local news station, the corpse of the man was recovered by the Emergency Services Unit of the New York Police Department (NYPD), the fire department, and a medical examiner.
He was unable to escape after the machinery started operating for no apparent reason.
David Greenberger, who managed the bakery, expressed his feelings of “devastation” to the reporters at ABC 7 when the business suffered a loss. “The family has been informed, and our sincere condolences have been conveyed to them,” he stated.
“We are truly sorry for their loss.” On-site grief counselors are ready to offer support and counseling to the family as well as our staff in the event of a loss.
A spokeswoman for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner told the Times that the man’s cause of death has not been identified, and that an autopsy would be performed on Friday in order to determine the cause of the man’s death.
According to the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, deaths related with walk-in freezers are rather uncommon. This is something that is noted in the study.
According to the Occupational Safety and Health Statistics published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the year 2020, there were 4,764 deaths that occurred on the job in the United States.
Of these deaths, 62 were ascribed to “exposure to temperature extremes.”
According to WPIX, Dansogo loved his job as a baker, even though he worked the night shift, and his family and friends thought he was happy there.
According to the company’s website, the bakery was established in Poland in 1939, moved to Brooklyn in 1970 after spending two decades in Manhattan, and opened its current location in Canarsie, which is 50,000 square feet in size, in 2016.
The company estimates that it has sold one hundred million of the black-and-white cookies since 1949.
