Young girl performed song that’s been around for 80 years, and the audience went wild

“Over the Rainbow” remains an enduring classic cherished by millions worldwide. Originally composed by Harold Arlen and lyricist Yip Harburg for the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz,” the song transcended its cinematic origins to become a timeless anthem.

One of the most beloved renditions of this iconic tune emerged from Israeli Kamakawiwo’ole, a Hawaiian vocalist who tenderly interpreted it with his ukulele during a spontaneous late-night session in 1988.

Recording engineer Milan Bertosa recounted receiving a 3 a.m. call from a man eager to record a song. Welcoming the unexpected visitor, Bertosa was taken aback by the immense presence of Kamakawiwo’ole. Setting up the equipment, Bertosa captured a mesmerizing one-take performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Through the years, the song has found its way into numerous film soundtracks, underscoring its enduring appeal. However, live performances of the piece often intimidate singers due to its demanding vocal requirements.

When 11-year-old Anna took the stage on The Voice Kids, her rendition captivated the judges, who swiftly turned their chairs, and enchanted the audience with her powerful delivery. Anna’s exceptional confidence and angelic voice marked her as a rising star in the making.
