11-year-old Attica girl buys camper and renovates her own tiny home

Children are full of imagination and original ideas, and they occasionally have the tenacity to see their goals come true.

Consider Lauren Nelson, an 11-year-old girl.

Her inspiration came from an American Girl doll magazine, when she saw a $650 toy VW vehicle.
When she expressed her desire to buy it to her parents, her father joked:

“That’s ridiculous; you could buy your own camper for that price.”

Rather than settle for a toy, Lauren set her sights on a genuine camper.
From allowances to Tooth Fairy presents, she painstakingly saved every dime.

As her mother recalls fondly:

“Lauren does, in fact, store money in an envelope. It all piled up.”

When a neighbor wanted to sell their ancient 20-foot camper, fate intervened.
Lauren was enamored despite her worn-out look.

Knowing her financial limits, she courageously negotiated a lower price, recounting:

“He said $500, and I said $400 because that was the money I had in my bank account, and he said sold.”

Lauren began her restoration quest now that she had the camper.
Her lack of previous manual labor experience did not dissuade her.

She kept saving, eventually investing an additional $400 in furniture and accessories.

The end result? a lovely small house.
The interior is basic in style, with black, white, and gray accents.

Every square inch is used wisely, from the comfortable living room and four-bed bedroom to the little bathroom and kitchen.

Lauren’s clever design also included plenty of storage space.
Lauren’s transformation from a simple wish to the delighted owner of a refurbished camper is nothing short of inspiring.

Her persistent determination has not only brought her goal to fruition but has also inspired countless others.

Her parents, too, deserve recognition.

They were firm in their support, considering Lauren’s quest a wonderful learning experience that will offer her a multitude of life skills.

Lauren faced various hurdles during this transforming journey.
Nonetheless, each obstacle served as a learning experience and a stepping stone.

She learned skills that will serve her well, such as budgeting and negotiating, as well as hands-on design and workmanship.

Lauren’s tale exemplifies the power of dedication, passion, and a sprinkle of support. Her enthusiasm for her new small house shines through every nook and cranny, a visible monument to her dedication and vision.

A thorough video tour of Lauren’s camper is available for those who are attracted by her story. It’s a lovely story of a little girl’s ambition, her persistent determination, and the stunning fruition of her work.
