5-year-old guitar prodigy captures room with superb ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ rendition, channeling Johnny Cash and Stealing the Show

Johnny Cash’s deep, raw voice and melancholy manner propelled him to enormous success. Wesley, a joyful, red-headed 5-year-old from Seattle, is nearly completely opposite. However, both can deliver a strong performance of “Folsom Prison Blues.”

At a Seattle coffee shop, Wesley made his debut as the Mini Man in Black. He bravely walked the stage alone, wearing a British flag T-shirt, shoulder-length red hair, and a small guitar adorned with flower and planet stickers.

Wesley may not have understood the song’s content, but he did know the lyrics, which he sang in his clear, pure child’s voice. He strummed and tapped his foot in time as he sang about “Folsom Prison” and his experiences there.

Wesley’s performance was part of a showcase featuring young guitar students. He enjoys performing, and he has performed Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” and Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” for his own TV show.
