Dave Coulier’s wife, Melissa Coulier, is providing an update on the Full House star’s cancer treatment.
Speaking to WXYZ, the 41-year-old revealed that her actor husband’s therapy has been more difficult since his diagnosis in October.
“He has some really tough days, and as the chemo has been accumulating, it gets a little tougher and more difficult,” she told me.
However, the health teacher stated that the comedian has kept his spirits up through comedy, which helps during difficult times.
“He has such a positive attitude, and you need that to really fight it,” she told me. If he’s feeling good, we put on a song and dance with the dogs every morning. When you feel good, you have to celebrate.
Melissa told the site that “everyone is really rallying around” Coulier, but he draws a lot of strength from his family members who have been through similar experiences.
“I believe that is just ingrained in him. He has experienced a great deal of loss in his life as a result of cancer. He lost his mother, sister, and niece. “His other sister had it,” she explained. “I think for him, he takes every stride and really pulls strength from seeing the women that were so close in his life to power through it; he just wants to honor them.”
Coulier, 65, told PEOPLE exclusively about his stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis on November 13. An upper respiratory illness caused enlargement of his lymph nodes, prompting him to undergo a checkup.
“My doctors called me back, and they said, ‘We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and it’s called B-cell, and it’s very aggressive,'” the actor told reporters at the time.
He described the journey as a swift and exhilarating experience.
Coulier stated that since his diagnosis, his wife has ensured that he eats properly during his illness.
“She has put together a whole nutrition plan for me,” he told PEOPLE of Melissa, whom he married in July 2014.
On November 13, Melissa shared a photo on Instagram. Melissa also wrote, in part, on how she’s helping her husband with his diagnosis: “We’re focusing on fueling his body with real whole foods, cutting out refined sugar & processed foods, spending time in nature, and incorporating infrared saunas, breathwork, and massages to support Dave’s strength and comfort.”
She said, “Dave’s resilience inspires me every day, and together, we’re doing everything to support his recovery—with plenty of laughter to keep spirits high.”
