Doug Emhoff, Kamala Harris’ husband, has confirmed an affair during their first marriage. ‘I went through some tough times’

Doug Emhoff is talking about an extramarital affair that occurred during his first marriage to Kerstin Emhoff.

Vice President Kamala Harris’ spouse said in a statement to CNN on Saturday, August 3, “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times as a result of my actions.”

“I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side,” said Doug, who is 59.

According to The Daily Mail, Doug’s adultery led to the couple’s divorce. The claimed romance took place years before Emhoff and Harris, both 59, started dating.

Kerstin, 57, told CNN: “Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago.”

“He is a great father to our kids and continues to be a great friend to me, and I am proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala, and I have built together,” she told me.

Doug and Kerstin wed from 1992 to 2010. They have two adult children: Cole, 29, a boy, and Ella, 25, a daughter.

Kerstin previously lauded her ex-husband’s role as Second Gentleman in November 2021. “He’s doing great!” she said on X (previously Twitter). “We are all so proud.”

She also told TIME in an article that Doug has changed since their wedding the same year. “Of course, he’s a better husband, which is wonderful,” Kerstin added. “That’s how it should be.”

Doug and Harris, who just earned the Democratic presidential nomination for 2024, less than two weeks after President Joe Biden’s historic decision to postpone his reelection bid, started dating in 2013 and married the following year.
