George Lazenby, who played James Bond for many years, still looks handsome in a three-piece suit, even though he’s 83 years old…

It would appear that all of the Hollywood actors who have played the role of Britain’s most famous and long-lasting fictional spy, James Bond, on the big screen – Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan, to name a few – have gone on to achieve tremendous success and become well-known figures in their respective fields. On the other hand, you might be excused for not being able to think of one actor who played Bond but did not go on to achieve the same level of superstardom as Timothy Dalton did, and no, we are not talking about Roger Moore.

After Sean Connery, George Lazenby was only the second actor to portray the notorious secret service agent. Connery was the first actor to play the role. He was just in one Bond movie, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” which was released in 1969, and his run as 007 was the shortest of any actor who has ever been cast in the role.

The Aussie was the youngest of four children and was the last of his family to be born on September 5, 1939 in Goulburn, New South Wales. Lazenby relocated to London when he was in his early 20s and started working as a car salesperson there. Around this time, he was noticed by a talent scout who advised that he give modeling a go. He began his modeling career shortly after this. The rugged good looks and muscular form of Lazenby drew the eye of film producers, and he quickly began to get offers for modest parts in television series and movies.

Lazenby took up the role of James Bond from Sean Connery, who had portrayed the character in all five of the previous films in the series, beginning with “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” in 1968. Lazenby’s interpretation of James Bond was distinct from Connery’s in that Lazenby gave the character a harder edge, both physically and emotionally, than Connery did. Lazenby made the decision not to participate in any of the next 007 movies, claiming his desire to seek other acting chances, despite the fact that portraying Bond had opened many doors for him in the profession.

Lazenby made an appearance at a pre-Oscars party in Los Angeles in March 2023, looking sprightly and in good shape despite being 83 years old. This was more than 50 years after he had lit up the screen as James Bond.

Lazenby said after the release of “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” that he would not continue to portray the part of James Bond, despite the fact that he had already signed up to appear in the subsequent series of films in the 007 franchise. After the news, the celebrity and his coworkers immediately began to verbally attack one another.

“They disregard everything I suggested simply because I hadn’t been in the film business like them for about a thousand years,” Lazenby said of the film’s producers in November 1969. “They disregard everything I suggested simply because I hadn’t been in the film business like them for about a thousand years.”

When a month had passed, he gave yet another interview and said, “I rather enjoy being a car salesperson than a stereotypical James Bond.” He continued by saying, “My parents think I’m nuts, everyone thinks I’m insane passing up maybe millions of pounds.” Nobody believed me. They believed it to be an elaborate hoax designed to get notoriety. So I’m simply going about my own business here.”

Many people were under the impression that Lazenby’s choice was only a question of personal taste; nevertheless, shortly after, reports began to circulate about his tough conduct on the set, which reportedly irritated many people, including his co-star Diana Rigg.

“Because I really don’t know what’s going through George’s head, all I can do is talk about how I feel about it. That seems like a fairly stupid thing to do to me. I believe that if he is capable of serving an apprenticeship, which is something that every person who works in this industry is required to do and must do, then he should do it quietly and with humility. According to the Express, she was quoted as adding that everyone ought to do it.

In addition to that, she said, “I can no longer accommodate to his fixation with himself.” He defies all logic and reason and is an impossibility par excellence.

The most cutting retort, however, came from Bond producer Albert Brocolli, who said that

“His was the worst decision I’ve made in the last 16 years. Simply put, he was incapable of managing his success. He had such a superior attitude. Lazenby had the size and good looks required for the role of James Bond, but he was unable to get along with the other actors and technicians.

Lazenby had a difficult time finding acting employment after he finished his run in the Bond series. With his breakthrough performance as James Bond, many people had high hopes for the rest of his career, but it was never able to live up to those expectations. He was only in a few low-budget movies and television episodes.

Lazenby relocated to the United States in the 1980s and reestablished his career as a car salesperson in the country. Yet he never lost his enthusiasm for acting and continued to audition for jobs even after he had a successful career. In the spy thriller “The Return of the Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” which was released in 1994, he had a supporting part that was still notable.

Since then, Lazenby has continued to act, most often appearing in supporting parts in various films and television series. Also, he has been included in a number of documentaries about the James Bond series and his time spent acting as the renowned spy.

During his career, Lazenby has been recognized for his ruggedly handsome appearance, imposing physique, and charming demeanor. He was often likened to Steve McQueen, and there are many who believe that he might have been a great celebrity if he had remained with the Bond series instead of moving on to other things after his time with 007.

Despite the fact that Lazenby has not attained the kind of success that many people anticipated for him after his breakthrough role, he has continued to act and has remained a prominent figure in the entertainment business. On March 9, 2023, he made an appearance at the Drive H2 Green Pre-Oscar Gala that was hosted at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. He was dressed to the nines and looked as handsome as any James Bond figure. The celebrity was taken with a broad grin on his face while wearing a blue pinstriped suit that consisted of three pieces and brown shoes. In spite of the fact that he was 83 years old, flashes of the star’s previous swagger and charisma were still visible as he mixed it up with other celebs like John Savage and Bj Korros.

We are overjoyed to see Lazenby out and about, and we can hardly wait to find out what he is planning to do next.
