Jennifer Lawrence appeared to be wearing a 2D strapless gown on the “No Hard Feelings” premiere red carpet until she moved to the side

Jennifer Lawrence donned a strapless optical-illusion dress that seemed both 2D and 3D to the premiere of her new film, “No Hard Feelings,” on Wednesday in Madrid.

Lawrence, the actress of “The Hunger Games,” graced the red carpet in a Loewe beige midi dress from the brand’s Fall/Winter 2023 womenswear line. She completed her look with black stilettos and emerald-colored earrings. She also kept her hair in a perfect side part.

While her overall look was simple, Lawrence’s cream-colored gown stood out because of its distinctive optical illusion design. When she was taken from the front, the ensemble was as flat as a board. However, as Lawrence moved sideways, a perceptible gap between the garment and her torso revealed that it was not, in fact, 2D.

However, Lawrence’s architectural ensemble is not universally admired. Commenters on photographs of Lawrence from the premiere uploaded by Check The Tag, an Instagram fashion site with over 147,000 followers, had different feelings about his appearance.

“I’m not sad she wore it; it’s just that the dress makes me sad for no reason,” one commenter said.

“I love her and Loewe, but in my humble opinion, this wasn’t a good match,” said one person. Another user said that Lawrence’s attire looked nice in person but didn’t photograph properly.

However, social media users’ responses to Lawrence’s stylist’s Instagram photo from the occasion were far more complimentary. Users applauded Lawrence’s sculptural outfit beneath a carousel of photographs uploaded by Jamie Mizrahi, a fashion stylist whose recent clients include Adele and Riley Keough. “This is beyond,” remarked one person.

“She’s very stunning. “This press tour has been incredible,” said another, adding multiple hand-clapping emojis.

Despite the mixed reviews, Lawrence was all smiles as she walked the red carpet with her “No Hard Feelings” co-star Andrew Feldman, 21, and the film’s director, Gene Stupnitsky, 45.

“No Hard Feelings” will be released in the United States on Saturday, June 17.
