John Stamos fights back tears while revealing that “Full House” co-star Jodie Sweetin helped him get sober

“This is Jodie’s enduring legacy in my life.”
Most of us will recall Jodie Sweetin as Stephanie Tanner in Full House, opposite John Stamos as Uncle J. The two, on the other hand, have a particular relationship that extends beyond what we witnessed on the tiny screen.

In fact, the two are so close that Stamos stated she assisted him during his fight with addiction, which he kept private for many years.

Sweetin made the announcement during the Writers in Treatment award event, where she earned the Experience, Strength, and Hope Award for her memoir UnSweetined. During the event, Stamos delivered a speech on how Sweetin helped him overcome his addiction.

It’s no secret that Sweetin battled addiction for a while. The actor, now 37, has been clean for over a decade. She acquired a degree in dr*g and alcohol counseling after overcoming addiction and, as recently discovered, also assisted Stamos in his battle with substance misuse.

“It took a long time, a long time of disappointing everyone who cared about me, culminating in a terrible DUI where I could have killed somebody,” Stamos explained. “I had hit rock bottom.”

He admitted that Sweetin was the only person in his life at the time who could connect with him and help him become sober.

“Jodie lovingly allowed me to walk my own path, and when I finally humbled myself to ask for your help, I realized that the perky little blabbermouth had become the master of wisdom and was right by my side during some of the most difficult days of my life,” he went on to say.

Sweetin would organize 12-step groups at his house and on the set of Full House, according to the 55-year-old. Last year, the actor had his first child with his wife Caitlin and credited Sweetin with his family knowing him as a sober man.

“Thank God, my new wife and son will only know me as a sober husband and father,” he stated. “This is Jodie’s enduring legacy in my life.”

We’re extremely proud of Stamos and Sweetin for overcoming their addictions. Do you have a particular someone in your life who helped you get through a difficult time?
