Kate Middleton stuns in gold gown and tiara at the state banquet, creating a memorable princess moment

Kate Middleton is back in a tiara as the royals entertain President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at a state luncheon at Windsor Castle.

The Princess of Wales, 43, attended a state banquet on Sept. 17 to commemorate the US president and first lady on their official visit to the United Kingdom. Prince William, King Charles, Queen Camilla, and other members of the royal family attended the Windsor Castle celebration, all dressed to the nines for the magnificent occasion.

A snapshot posted on the couple’s social media profiles provided the first glimpse of Kate’s evening appearance. “Ready for the State Banquet,” they captioned the shot, which was taken by photographer Matt Porteous.

The Prince and Princess of Wales stood in their white-tie gowns, with Kate wearing a couture gown by British designer Phillipa Lepley, which included a full-length, hand-embroidered gold Chantilly lace evening coat over a silk crepe gown.

She completed her ensemble with her signature royal headgear, Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara.

Princess Kate has worn four distinct tiaras for various events, including state dinners, diplomatic celebrations, and royal weddings, with the Lover’s Knot Tiara being her most popular royal adornment.

Princess Kate completed her ensemble for the state supper by wearing earrings belonging to the late Queen Elizabeth. She also wore the Royal Family Order of King Charles III, the Royal Family Order of Elizabeth II, and the Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order star and sash.

Kate first wore a tiara when she married Prince William in 2011.

Most recently, the Princess of Wales wore Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara during a state visit by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, in July. Kate was wearing her first tiara since 2023, after spending the majority of 2024 away from the public eye while undergoing cancer treatment. She stated in January that she was in remission.

Earlier on Wednesday, Princess Kate and Prince William greeted the Trumps, beginning the state visit. The royal couple received their guests at Windsor prior to a ceremonial greeting from King Charles and Queen Camilla. The company then traveled to Windsor Castle by horse-drawn carriage, where they had lunch and saw a special display of objects from the Royal Collection.

On Thursday, Princess Kate and Melania will attend a joint engagement at Frogmore Gardens to meet with Scouts who are learning about wildlife to obtain their “Go Wild” badge.
