The tiny house trend isn’t going away. With real estate prices at an all-time high, more individuals are seeking methods to downsize.
You’ve most likely driven by a large box home improvement store like Lowe’s or Home Depot and seen their assortment of sheds. Perhaps you’ve even considered using them as a relaxing area in your backyard.
Tuff Shed’s TR1600 model was offered at Home Depot a few years ago, and consumers are now impatiently anticipating a refill. More than one individual decided that this shed would make an excellent little house.
If you’ve ever looked closely at these charming huts in the parking lot, you’ll see that they have more potential than just a shed in your backyard.
The TR1600 is a huge unit that measures 16′ by 16′ and costs $10,888.

You’ll need to spend more than $22,000 if you want it painted and outfitted with more inside room. This excludes drywall, insulation, electricity, and plumbing.
Of course, it’s still less expensive than most American cities’ real estate!
Is it a wise investment?
One couple decided to go for it, acquiring the 16′ by 24′ shed and converting it into their house. They’ve documented their lives in the little shed on Facebook.
But be warned: this highly liveable version will set you back $65,000. Because they already owned a home on the site, the couple already had a septic system and well water.
And it took a whole construction crew to complete, so this isn’t something you can just have delivered to your driveway.
During the TR-1600 frenzy, a YouTuber named Original Texan dropped by Home Depot to look at the parking lot replica, and over half a million people have since viewed the video and shown interest.

It’s difficult to notice the possibilities in the pressed-wood little house at first.
If you want to work in it, even part-time, you must have a strong imagination. However, the tour in the video below will give you a fair notion of what you’re up against in terms of space.
If you want to convert a shed into a house, the first thing you need to think about is where you’d put it and whether it can fulfill building requirements. In several locations in the United States, new dwellings must be at least 1000 square feet.
However, several reviewers wished for smaller buildings.
“That’s a really cool structure.” That’s all I’d need—nothing too elaborate. “That place would be perfect when finished and insulated out in the woods,” one viewer said.
The original Texan responded:
“I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s a terrific idea since if a home is needed, alterations may be made as needed. The goal is just to inspire individuals who cannot afford a $200,000 home. Things are becoming increasingly pricey.”
That was a year ago, and the property market has only become more expensive since then.
While TuffShed does not now manufacture the TR-1600 (at least not via Home Depot), they do offer a variety of other versions.
