It is unusual to become pregnant with six children and carry them to term in excellent health. Janet had known from a young age that she would not become a mother; therefore, she never imagined she would be in this minuscule proportion. However, fate had different intentions, generously rewarding her for her persistence, faith, and determination.

Graham and Janet met in the Isle of Man when they were 17 years old. Their connection began as a friendship but rapidly turned into something more. Janet decided to tell Graham the truth about her infertility after understanding how strongly she felt. Due to a rare condition, Janet had never experienced a menstrual cycle, and doctors had informed her that pregnancy was impossible. “I want to be with you, and if we’re not meant to have kids, so be it,” said Graham.

At 24, the pair married. A bit later, physicians gave Janet positive news: she still had a chance to become a mother. In the 1980s, she and Graham decided to try everything. There was no result despite twelve attempts.

“Let’s try it again. If things didn’t work out, the couple planned to adopt. And a miracle happened on the twelfth attempt. Janet, 31, discovered she was pregnant during her eight-week scan.

Janet grew concerned when she noticed the doctor’s large eyes. The doctor left the room and returned with the main physician and a few colleagues. Upon discovering that she was expecting six children, they strongly recommended her immediate hospital admission.

The couple was astonished. The doctor estimated that the chances of carrying all six kids to term were slim. Janet, on the other hand, remained calm and certain that everything would be OK.

“A Unique Birth and Janet’s Feat”

In order to rescue some babies, the doctors asked Janet to wait until she was 23 weeks pregnant. Despite her agonizing pain, Janet was determined to face any obstacle in order to become a mother. When it became clear that the infants’ space was running out at 31 weeks, the physicians decided to perform a C-section.

On November 18, 1983, seven medical teams attended the birth. Janet successfully delivered all six infants while under general anesthesia. Her first thought upon waking up was for the children. Fortunately, all six were still alive, weighing between one and a half kg. They were all female.

Janet and her kids arrived home a month later. Graham took a paternity leave to help out his wife.

The parents couldn’t understand how to care for so many infants, so the government sent a team of nurses to the residence. They could only get a few hours of sleep every night for the first several months. For outings, they used two double strollers and slings. The young parents were blissfully satisfied, despite the constant activity and loudness that had become the norm.

In Liverpool, the Waltons came to prominence. They appeared in advertisements and received invitations to participate in television programs.

The girls grew up and departed as time passed. Hannah, a primary school teacher, was the only one to stay with her parents.
