Sandy Larson, 70, of Knoxville, Tennessee, wowed both the judges and the audience in the Season 20 premiere of America’s Got Talent (AGT) on May 27, 2025, with a dazzling belly dance and sword act, gaining effusive acclaim from Simon Cowell and progressing to the next round.
Sandy, a former professional dancer, had left the spotlight decades ago to raise her family. Now, seizing the opportunity, she returned to the stage with her lifelong friends and fellow dancers, Kippy Woloszyn and Kara Kruse. Their performance of Donna Summer’s “Last Dance” was a brilliant demonstration of ability and togetherness, with Sandy expertly balancing swords while dancing.

The judges’ reactions were divided. Mel B buzzed the act and expressed misgivings. Nevertheless, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Simon Cowell were pleased. Cowell applauded the performance, saying, “I appreciated how your backup dancers weren’t the finest dancers in the world, but that’s what made it wonderful.” It made me thrilled.” Vergara called it “beautiful” and a “great way to finish today.”
Sandy’s audition was a standout moment of the premiere, exemplifying AGT’s philosophy of presenting various talents and uplifting tales. Her return to the stage after decades exemplifies the concept that it is never too late to achieve one’s aspirations.
