The actor who portrayed ‘Goofy’ for 30 years has shocked fans by confessing the character isn’t dog

Because of his name, there is no doubt that Mickey Mouse is a mouse. But has anyone ever confirmed what Goofy is?

Surely not, given the lack of need. Mickey Mouse’s favorite companion is a dog, right?

According to his voice actor, Bill Farmer, we’ve all got it wrong: the famous cartoon isn’t a dog after all.

Disney painters initially dubbed the klutzy figure Dippy Dawg when he first appeared in Mickey’s Revue in 1932, despite his resemblance to a dog.

Dippy Dawg made six performances in all, but by his seventh, in 1934, he had adopted the new moniker ‘Goofy’ and had established himself as a show regular.

However, no one has ever identified him as anything other than a dawg, and he is not particularly dog-like compared to Mickey’s dog Pluto.

While Goofy can walk and talk, Pluto can only bark and crawl.

Now, Farmer, who has been Goofy’s official voice since 1987, has chimed in on the age-old controversy about what sort of animal his character is.

He told Yahoo! News that for decades, people have been focusing on the wrong issues.
Farmer stated, “He is not a dog.

“While Pluto is a dog, Goofy seems to belong to the canine family, similar to how a wolf is not a dog, yet both belong to the same family.” I believe Canis Goofus is the technical Latin phrase for what Goofy is. He’s just goofy.

So there you have it. Goofy’s voice actor has spoken… but given that Goofy was originally named Dippy Dawg, I’m sure some people, like myself, will still suspect that he’s simply a clumsy dog.

A Twitter user posed a question to their followers: “People have been debating for years…” Is Goofy a Dog or a Cow?

On the renowned television show, Goofy harbored feelings for Clarabelle Cow.

So, have you changed your mind? Do you still believe he’s a dog, or is Goofy simply Goofy, as Farmer puts it?
