One bride’s brother went viral for his humorous wedding speech.
Bride Sara Beth, 28, and groom Jordan, 31, were married in Baltimore. David, 32, the groom’s best friend of more than 20 years, acted as best man but is also the bride’s elder brother, a fact he humorously addressed in a wedding toast, making the couple’s 250 guests chuckle.
“I thought you were my best friend!” David yelled over a microphone as he faced the newlyweds at the reception. “Here’s my sister! My best buddy and sister! “I cannot believe this!”
Anyone who watches Friends will notice that the opening of David’s remark was a reference to a moment from the iconic sitcom.
In season 5, episode 15 of the classic NBC comedy “The One with the Girl Who Hits Joey,” Ross Geller (David Schwimmer) is furious to learn that his closest friend, Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), is in a love connection with his younger sister, Monica (Courteney Cox). He shouts at the two: “I thought you were my greatest buddy! This is my sister. My best buddy and sister! I cannot believe this!”
During the hilarious toast introduction, the wedding guests yelled and cheered. The bride and groom, who started dating in 2014, grinned and laughed at David’s phony outrage.
“We loved the speech, especially since we’re huge Friends fans,” Sara Beth and Jordan tell PEOPLE of their reaction to David’s gesture. “The guests loved it!”

And, like Ross from Friends, David calmed himself and hugged his closest buddy before continuing his meaningful statement. “Sara Beth, I should have known one day—for all the big brother things I did to annoy you— that one day I would get it back, and boy did you get me back,” David stated.
He added, “I mean, truly, Jordan, look how gorgeous Sara Beth is tonight. Not only is she stunning, but she is also my sister. And I’ll only tell it once: don’t mess this up.”
He remarked, gazing around at all the visitors, “I can’t believe it, my best friend and sister! And you all knew and didn’t tell me!”
This was another allusion to a scene from Friends. In the episode, Ross was astonished to find that Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) and Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) had known about the relationship “for a while.” “What? What? Did you guys know? Ross asked. “You all knew, and you didn’t tell me?”
David ended his toast by inviting people to “raise a glass and celebrate.”
Bowen Films taped the speech, which was then released on TikTok on April 9. “When your sister marries your best friend,” the wedding videographer stated in an onscreen text overlay. The video was uploaded to the Friends theme tune, “I’ll Be There for You” by The Rembrandts, and has had over 380,000 views and 35,000 likes.
People in the comments section said they loved the Friends reference. “This might actually be Ross Geller,” said one TikTok user, while another wrote, “Bro only approved this wedding so he can recreate this iconic Friends scene at the wedding.”
