The flight was diverted because of the thing that ‘jumped’ from a passenger’s meal

A Scandinavian Airlines customer received an unpleasant surprise when she opened her in-flight food and a live mouse scampered out.

The unsanitary occurrence forced the airplane to make an emergency landing on Wednesday, September 17, according to the AFP news agency and the BBC.

Airline spokeswoman Oystein Schmidt stated that the rodent posed a “safety risk” to passengers flying from Oslo, Norway, to Malaga, Spain. The flight was redirected to Copenhagen.

Passengers then flew on another plane to their intended destination, Malaga.

Jarle Borrestad, one of the guests on board, shared on Facebook his experience watching the furry invader.

“Believe it or not. A lady next to me at SAS opened the meal, and a mouse jumped out. Borrestad wrote, “We’ve turned back and landed at CPH [Copenhagen Airport] for flight changes.

Schmidt stated that spotting a mouse on a flight is “something that happens extremely rarely.”

Another Scandinavian Airlines official stated, “We made a very normal landing in Copenhagen to change aircraft and cater—which is a fully normal procedure when a rodent is found onboard.”

According to the statement, “In these cases, we have very clear procedures to follow, including full inspection of the aircraft and all our suppliers’ processes to see what needs improvement or change to avoid scenarios like these.” We have now initiated this inspection and investigation.

According to an article on the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) website, mice may gnaw through electrical wiring on planes and partly chewed wires, which are difficult to detect, can produce short circuits and constitute a fire danger.

According to AOPA, mice may use the airplane’s restroom as well as their living quarters. This is more than just disgusting. Mouse urine is corrosive to metal, and their droppings can act as anti-desiccants, trapping moisture and causing water corrosion.”

“If you see a mouse in the hangar, the correct response is to jump into action,” the paper says.
