As a kid actor in the 1970s, he was teased by his friends for performing in commercials. At 17, he left home for Los Angeles, where he shared a tiny flat with two other aspiring actors. At 55, he appears very different from the image that formerly characterized him—gray hair, wrinkles, and a new visage that has elicited direct responses from followers online. He was formerly a well-known television celebrity, but his current look comes after a high-speed collision, serious face damage, and a departure from public life.
From Vancouver to the Center of Teen Television
He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, on August 28, 1969, and began performing in local shows and commercials at the age of five. His early entry into the sector presented obstacles. He later disclosed that, as a child performer in Canada, he experienced more physical abuse than other children.

It occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m., and he was driving with a passenger, 27-year-old Chad Cook, who fractured his right arm and was treated at a nearby hospital. Police officers on the scene noticed apparent symptoms of drunkenness. He was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing harm, which is a crime.
He secured a $50,000 bond and was released from the LAPD’s Hollywood Division later that morning. A spokeswoman verified that the results of the blood alcohol test were still pending at the time.
He eventually pleaded not guilty to a minor DUI charge and completed an alcohol treatment program. The event damaged his Porsche and marked the start of a series of high-impact incidents throughout the years, none more serious than the one that occurred only three years later.
A crash at 180 mph and its aftermath
On August 11, 2002, during an Infiniti Pro Series practice session at Kentucky Speedway, his race vehicle collided head-on with a concrete wall at approximately 180 mph. He crashed when he was exiting the track’s second turn.
Witnesses claimed he drove across a patch of “oil-dry,” a granular substance meant to collect fluid from a previous incident, ignoring warnings to avoid the area. The impact resulted in several catastrophic injuries.
He suffered a spinal fracture in the center of his back, broken bones in both feet, and a closed-head injury. He was transported by helicopter to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington.
At the hospital, physicians sedated him on a respirator, although he was breathing on his own and responding to orders. Medical personnel confirmed that he was aware, had stable vital signs, and had no symptoms of paralysis.
He had been engaged in previous incidents before, including a 1995 rally collision in Olympia, Washington, and a 2002 powerboat disaster in Miami, but none were as serious as this one. The collision was the worst crash of his life, leaving him with an unclear future.
Rebuilding A Shattered Face
In an interview following the crash, he reported waking up in the hospital and not knowing what had happened to his body. In an interview with Barbara Walters in early 2003, he described the extent of his injuries as being so severe that his face was nearly unrecognizable.
He also feared he wouldn’t be able to walk again, recalling Christopher Reeve and racing teammate Sam Schmidt, both of whom had paralysis. “I was really, really terrified that that was going to be me,” he remembered saying. In a subsequent interview with Piers Morgan, he described the severity of his facial wounds.
“I fractured my back, destroyed both of my feet, and also caused significant damage to my face. I pulled my nose off my face, breaking my orbital bone, cheekbone, and ocular mantle. “They actually had to remove my eyeball and rebuild a portion of my skull,” he explained.
Recovery was lengthy and painful, and it took some time before the affected side of his face regained complete function. The incident ended his professional racing career.
He acknowledged that the two years following the catastrophe were the most difficult of his life. They were completely focused on physical recovery and recovering his footing, both physically and professionally.
Work that was not seen in Hollywood
In the years since his rehabilitation, he has gradually returned to the entertainment sector. By 2013, he was marketing his part on the Canadian sitcom “Call Me Fitz,” which he also produced and occasionally directed. The series aired in the United States on DirecTV, although he said it did not garner much attention.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, he stated, “I still have this incredibly active and very successful career that is virtually unseen in Hollywood.” He made it plain that he didn’t want to rely on prior celebrity to be relevant and that doing so would be “pathetic.”
