This is how I wash and wring out heavy blankets and comforters that do not fit in the washing machine

Washing a heavy, fluffy blanket or comforter, especially large, double-sized ones, is quite a challenging task. Such bedding doesn’t fit into a washing machine, and dry cleaning is expensive.

Therefore, hand washing these items is often necessary. However, not everyone can manage this, especially those with back problems, as washing a heavy blanket or comforter manually can cause even more damage.

However, I know of a wonderful method that solves this problem. It involves washing these items not with hands but with feet.

Washing a large heavy blanket:

Fill a bathtub with warm water—don’t use a basin, as it won’t hold enough. The water should be warm, not exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, it could harm the fabric.

Add a bit of gentle detergent and a few drops of any dishwashing gel, which helps remove grease stains and sweat marks from the items.

Dissolve the products well in the water and immerse the blanket. The water should completely cover it. The blanket absorbs water very well, so you’ll need much more water than you might think.

However, the blanket shouldn’t float; there should be slightly more water than needed. Leave the items for 3-4 hours.

Afterward, step into the bathtub and stomp on the blanket thoroughly, as if you’re pressing grapes.

Then drain the dirty water and refill it with clean water. Stomp on the blanket again. This way, you’ll remove not only dirt but also the detergent.

Leave the blanket again for several hours, depending on how dirty it is.

Now you need to wring out the blanket.

Ring it out with your feet as well. Drain the water and stomp on the dry item. Fold the blanket to make this process more effective.

Next, place stools in the bathtub, spread the blanket over them, and let the water drain.

This process can take several hours or even overnight. Then, dry the blanket as usual.

That’s it—now you won’t have any difficulties washing a blanket or comforter, even if you have a painful back.
