This seemingly simple math problem continues to confuse people

An extra difficulty that appears simple at first glance is generally shared since people’s mental arithmetic skills are repeatedly tripped up by the same section of it. All you need to do is add the following numbers. Test it for yourself:

You have 1,000.

Add 40, and then add 1000.

add 30,

Again, add 1000, then add 20.

Again, 1000.

add 10

What is the outcome?

If you come up with 5,000, you are not alone. But you are also incorrect.

The actual correct answer is 4,100.

It’s incredibly simple to add up the first set of numbers in your head. 1,000 plus 40 equals 1,040; 1,000 plus 1,000 equals 2,040; 1,000 plus 30 equals 3,070; 1,000 plus 20 equals 3,090; and 1,000 plus 1,000 equals 4,090. However, the penultimate sum presents a significant challenge. Most people add ten to that amount to get 5,000. However, this is a result of your brain processing the number incorrectly (i.e., missing the zero). The right total is, of course, 4,100.
