The reality TV celebrity took the stage with the Most Extras to perform A-ha’s “Take On “Me”—one of his favorite karaoke songs—on the NBC competition show. Tom Sandoval is progressing to the next round of America’s Got Talent.
On Tuesday night, the former Vanderpump Rules star auditioned for the upcoming installment of America’s Got Talent with his cover band, Tom Sandoval and the Most Extras. The reality star sang a performance of A-ha’s “Take On Me,” but not before revealing that he was part of a historic cheating incident (dubbed Scandoval) that made him “the most hated man in America.”
“Being on a reality TV program means revealing a lot about your personal life. I was involved in a scandal a few years ago and was labeled ‘the most hated man in America’ by the New York Times,” he told Simon Cowell. “It was quite tough, and I was in a very dark place. I felt like I didn’t have anything in my life, and this band was the only thing keeping me going.”
The judges (Cowell, Mel B, Sofía Vergara, and Howie Mandel) gave a standing ovation to the Most Extras after their performance. The former Spice Girl claimed the performance “made me smile,” while the Griselda actor stated, “You guys brought us joy tonight.”
Mendel praised the reality star, stating that he is a showman who takes his work seriously. For me, it was fantastic.” Cowell was the sharpest critic, saying, “To be honest, Tom, the voices weren’t terrific. However, not everyone who appears on this show is looking for a record contract. All four judges, however, cast “yes” votes, advancing the Most Extras to the competition’s next round.
