White mom going viral after birth of Black baby, but husband is white

The arrival of a newborn is always a reason for joy, especially when it comes time to see them in person after months of waiting.

Babies frequently surprise us with their distinct characteristics, ranging from a head full of hair to adorable dimples. The most startling twist comes when a newborn looks nothing like their parents. This was the case for one family whose tale went viral, generating interest and suspicion online. Continue reading to learn more about what happened. Rachel, a clerk at Celina 52 Truck Stop in Tennessee, received her baby, Cash Jamal Buckman, on February 17, 2024.

What drew people’s notice was that Rachel and her fiancé, Paul Buckman, are both white, although Cash looks to be Black. The truck stop posted a photo of the joyful family to Facebook, congratulating Rachel on her new baby.

“Congratulations to our cashier Rachel and her fiancé Paul Buckman on their baby Cash Jamal Buckman being [born] on Saturday at 6:18pm,” according to the post.

Instead of receiving well-wishes, the post elicited comments doubting Cash’s paternity, with some implying that Paul may not be his original father.

In response to the conjecture, Celina 52 Truck Stop changed their post to include, “Yes, Paul is the father.” Rachel carries African American DNA, which can pass down through generations and result in a child having a darker complexion. They also addressed the likelihood of Cash having jaundice, a common issue in infants, and ended the article with the phrase “Please be kind.”

Despite the truck stop’s answer, questions and jokes continued to circulate online. Someone wrote, “Congratulations!!! I’m sure he looks precisely like his father”” Where is he?” A different individual responded, “Definitely needs a DNA test; what if they accidentally mixed up the kiddos in the nursery?” At the same time, several users expressed pity for Paul, with one user adding, “I feel terrible for Paul; being fooled like this is a whole new level of creep. Hopefully, he’ll catch on.”

Rachel then decided to take matters into her own hands by posting her supposed DNA results on Facebook to verify her origins.

“For those who claim I don’t have Black DNA, perhaps my heritage DNA results would clear things up. STOP slandering my and [fiancé] Paul Buckman’s names. “He is Lil Cash’s father,” she wrote.

However, the jokes continued, with many making light of the scenario and doubting the veracity of the test findings.

“That’s the most powerful 1% I’ve ever seen…” “This looks like a job for Maury,” someone said.

Another person with comparable DNA said, “I have that too…and both my babies still look Irish as a boiled potato.” The tale soon spread on social media, with people expressing their thoughts and responses. TikTok users also joined the chat, giving their own comedic interpretations on the matter.

As curiosity persisted, Celina 52 Truck Stop said that they will undertake polygraph and DNA testing on its personnel. The news merely fueled the flames, with many people anxiously anticipating the results of the probe.

The Celina 52 Truck Stop then took to Facebook on March 24 with their “FINAL STATEMENT REGARDING CASH JAMAL BUCKMAN PATERNITY.”

The post was straightforward and clear, attempting to put the swirling rumors and conjecture to bed once and for all. According to Rachel’s workplace, the DNA results from the Steve Wilkos program proved that Paul Buckman is not Cash Jamal’s real father.

Rachel insists that she was faithful to Paul and that Cash was born with her ex-boyfriend in 2021. She believes his DNA stayed dormant until 2023, when she contracted Covid, activating the DNA and resulting in her pregnancy.

Despite the discovery, Paul has chosen to remain with Rachel and raise Cash as his own, feeling that the news would only enhance their love. Rachel resigned from her cashier employment at the Truck Stop on February 27, 2024, and received a $100 severance payment.

Celina 52 Truck Stop concluded the press statement by adding, “As Maury Povich would say, ‘Paul, you are NOT the father, but you ARE the dad.'”
