Why the family of the ‘Sleeping Prince’ disregarded doctors’ advice as he died after 20 years in a coma…

After years on life support, the family of Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud refused to abandon him.

In 2005, the Saudi prince was involved in a vehicle accident in London, United Kingdom, which left the then-teenager with life-changing injuries.

Prince Al-Waleed was transported to Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz Medical City, where he spent the rest of his life in a coma.

It was not until yesterday (July 19) that the 36-year-old died from his injuries.

His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, announced his death, saying, “With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today.”

Prince Al-Waleed’s family refused to give up hope that their son might recover, so they defied physicians’ advice and chose to keep him alive.

The choice was motivated by their religious views, and Prince Khaled earlier stated, as reported by the Economic Times, “If God had wanted him to die in the accident, he would have been in his grave now.”

His mother stated that she could still feel her son’s spirit when he was in a coma.

When Prince Al-Waleed moved his fingers and head in 2019, the Royal Family believed it gave them hope for his future.

Roya News said that ‘he displayed evidence of limited awareness by modest motions, such as raising a finger or gently turning his head—though these moments did not imply a return to complete consciousness.’

This was the prince’s final documented movement.

Prince Al-Waleed has received several tributes upon his death.

“The Global Imams Council extends its sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz; His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman; and the esteemed Royal Family on the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Alwaleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, who passed away after a long struggle that lasted nearly twenty years following a tragic accident,” according to a post shared by the Global Imams Council via Instagram.

Meanwhile, others online expressed their respect and sympathy for the Royal Family.
