Woody Harrelson doesn’t own a cell phone, and the reason will surprise you

Don’t text or phone Woody Harrelson because there’s a strong chance he won’t answer.

On June 18, Harrelson, 62, discussed his technology-related communication habits with Ted Danson and guest Kristen Bell on their podcast, Where Everybody Knows Your Name.

Danson, 76, began the podcast by saying, “Let me explain something about Woody.”” He is without a phone. He is one of the world’s bullies, forcing others to hold his phone for him.

Although it wasn’t “exactly true,” the True Detective star replied. Danson quipped that he just chuckles when someone tells him to “call Woody.”

Harrelson explained, “Well, I just don’t like to have, you know, to be readily available to any human being at any time.”

“In a way, I enjoy staying in contact with people, but I don’t like the appendage on my back.”

The actor went on to talk about how he used to set a two-hour time limit on his phone and how quickly the time would pass.

Harrelson claimed that he texted considerably more frequently than he made phone calls on the phone, which he gave up roughly three and a half years ago.

“At the time, I thought, ‘All right, let me set this limit.'” “Two hours,” said Harrelson. It’s almost nine in the evening. I woke up at 9:30 because, well, you know how it can just go on and on. I’ve been on it for two hours already.

The Hunger Games actor said that he didn’t want to be at dinner and have a pause in conversation, which evolved into him checking his phone throughout supper.

Prior to the podcast’s June debut, Danson told people how much he and Harrelson enjoyed creating it. When they began working on the project in June 2023, the co-host said, “We both had so much fun.” “I get to spend time with my friend Woody.”

Harrelson and Danson’s co-starring role in the television series Cheers inspired the name of their podcast.

“We have met many people between us who we can talk to and find out what they’re doing, including Senator [John] Kerry, who had a small role in Cheers, and we can talk to him about climate change,” he said. “We get to reminisce, share, and catch up with each other, which alone is enough,” he added. “With it, we really can go anywhere.”
