After heartwarming performance of ‘You Raise Me Up,’ Simon Cowell gives unusual promise to contestant

Simon Cowell clearly understands how to make your fantasies come true. On the most recent episode of America’s Got Talent, 13-year-old singer-soloist Jeffrey Li quickly touched Simon Cowell’s heart by telling him he wanted to get a puppy if he won the show’s $1,000,000.00 top prize.

The bright kid revealed, “I’m an only child, so I’d like a companion, so I guess a dog,” adding that he chose a German Shepherd because “it would play with me all day, and I would love that.” Has anyone else, like me, fallen in love yet?

Of course, this hit all the appropriate buttons for Simon Cowell, a well-known dog lover and animal rights crusader. The typically curmudgeonous Brit quickly brightened up from his customary side-leaning, inattentive demeanor. Simon promised, “If you do well, I’ll buy you a dog.” “We’ll choose one together.”

For his audition song, the 13-year-old selected “You Raise Me Up,” which Josh Groban made popular in 2013. This is not a natural number. The song requires the vocalist to have a stunningly broad vocal range.

Of course, the youngster pulled it off without incident. At the end of his high note-hitting performance, the entire house, including the judges, stood up to celebrate and clap.

The ever-quirky Howie Mandel referred to him as a “young male Celine Dion,” while Mel B called him “an angel singing.” Simon Cowell, on the other hand, had the deepest feelings for the young artist.

“Jeffrey, I think this was an excellent audition; therefore, I will follow my promise.” Not only did you get four yeses, but you also got yourself a new dog,” Cowell added, as Li smiled from onstage.

We’re excited to see Li perform again, and perhaps he’ll bring his new dog with him. (Won’t that be fun?!) The child’s cuteness is undeniable. Now we have to resist him and a cute puppy dog. Meanwhile, take a moment to appreciate his outstanding audition:
