When the Phoenix Boys’ dance ensemble went to the audition stage of Britain’s Got Talent 2024, the judges were surprised to learn they had just three practices. Their swagger was palpable from the time they emerged—the lads had already made the crowd laugh by reeling off a jumbled list of where their members had been picked from, from Kent to Glasgow and Cheshire to Manchester. But they couldn’t have predicted the crazy reaction their once-in-a-lifetime tryout would get.
BGT has featured a plethora of street dancers competing for the title. Could you imagine a whole street filled with male ballet dancers?
From their first step, the Phoenix Boys captivated the audience, combining traditional ballet and modern interpretative dance with an exhilarating, acrobatic edge. As the routine went on, an increasing number of lads joined in on the ornamental backflips, cartwheels, pirouettes, and lifts, tripling the strength and stunning elegance of this extraordinary performance. Their incredible audition has already received over half a million views on YouTube!
The judges were stunned into silence until a massive standing ovation erupted from the audience, which professional dance judge Bruno Tonioli joined. After a brief pause, he smashed the Golden Buzzer so hard that it split down the middle, smashing the button with a passion unprecedented in BGT history.
