‘The Voice Senior’ is the next installment in The Voice spinoff series. Contestants must be at least 60 years old to compete. The coaches for Season 1 are Flemish artist and performer Natalia, Belgian singer Walter Grootaers, tenor singer-songwriter Helmut Lotti, and Belgian singer Dana Winner.
Rita Roelandt, 65, of Herzele, has been singing since the age of sixteen, although she had given up on a singing career a long time before. Rita initially refused to audition for the show, but her daughter Jessey signed her up anyway. Therefore, Rita had no choice but to participate in the audition. Imagine how this incredible ability went unrecognized!
Rita chose “At Last,” a 1960 hit song by rhythm and blues musician Etta James. Other well-known musicians, such as Celine Dion and Beyoncé, have covered the song, which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. Rita had large shoes to fill.
Rita, dressed in cheerful yellow, came center stage, while her family backstage blew her kisses for good luck. It only took a few meters for coach Helmut Lotti to turn his chair in response to the beautiful voice he heard behind him. Rita’s voice was soft as silk, and it seemed to ease everyone.
The other coaches listened closely as Rita grew more comfortable and confident in her song. The other two coaches quickly pressed a second buzzer. She made a lasting impression on both the judges and the audience with her moving performance.
Rita decided to join coach Helmut Lotti’s team after hearing their feedback and admiration. Rita realized that her love for singing had remained with her until she took the stage and sang. Now all she wants to do is keep playing onstage. How far do you think she will advance in the competition?
