Since Doreen Mann has been a frequent customer at Tomassi’s café for the past 10 years, Sonia Congrave became concerned when she didn’t show up for her usual cup of tea and piece of cake when she didn’t show up for her usual visit.
It turned out that Doreen had been taking a bath at her house in Southend when she suddenly became unable to climb out of the tub because her knees had given up.
The elderly woman, who was 87 years old, was only able to keep herself warm with a towel and had to survive on cold tap water for four days in order to stay hydrated.
Sonia eventually placed a call to the Essex Police Department and requested that an officer visit the home of the old lady to ensure that she was in good health.
Doreen’s calls for assistance were heard by the law enforcement personnel, and they were able to rescue her by pulling her out of the tub and into safety.
Due to the closeness of their connection, Doreen, who is 39 years old and works as a waitress, decided to purchase Sonia a phone in the event that she ever finds herself in danger again.
In the footage that can be found below, Sonia can be heard saying, “I’m just grateful she’s okay, I’m pleased nothing awful happened.”
I think it would be nice for all of us to take a bit of a time-out to remember our neighbors or remember the lady down the road who you haven’t seen in a few days and just give a knock or a phone call.
