What is the first thing you think of when you hear the words “shipping containers”?

Does it have anything to do with moving goods or building homes?

You might be surprised to learn that architects and house designers have become very interested in using shipping containers as an alternative way to build homes in the past few years.

This might come as a surprise to you.

A lot of people have decided that, for a variety of money-related reasons, the best way to live would be in a shipping container.

Those of you who know about or are interested in the Tiny House movement won’t be the least bit surprised by what you read here.

People all over the world are “revolutionizing” the housing industry by choosing non-traditional ways to live, like buying one or two shipping containers and turning them into their dream homes.

So that they can have all the modern conveniences that come with a house, they have to spend a lot of time and money rebuilding and outfitting their homes.

But the decision they made to turn shipping containers into homes is much cheaper than getting a mortgage to buy a house.

It also lets them start their lives with less debt because they won’t have to make regular payments to the bank for many years.

In today’s story, we won’t see a traditional “shipping container” house, but a more futuristic one.
This is what happens when you hire a creative architect to fix up a bunch of shipping containers.

When James Whitaker, a London architect and digital artist, made this futuristic building for a German advertising company in 2010, the project didn’t go any further.

A movie producer was surprised to think that Whitaker’s design would look great on his desert property in California’s Joshua Tree National Park.

Whitaker took the producer up on his offer right away because he was so excited about the idea being made real!

And that’s how the 2,100-square-foot Joshua Tree Residence with its futuristic look came to be.

Whitaker said, “The image was of an office I’d planned years ago but never built. The next time the customer was in London, he got in touch with us and asked to meet.”

At first glance, the building might look a little small, but it is actually very open and has a beautiful, simple design.

Because of where the containers are placed and the glass windows on the ends of the containers, the home is filled with a lot of natural light.

The Residence has a comfortable living room, a fully-stocked kitchen, and three bedrooms with private bathrooms.

As part of their plan to make the house use less energy, the architects are thinking about putting solar panels on the garage roof.

“There was a lot of care put into aligning the interior halls of the containers,” Whitaker told CNN.

“This means that when you walk into the home at the start of the weekend and no one else is there yet, you can stand in the middle with all the bedroom doors open and enjoy looking out into the desert.”

It looks like the house grew out of the ground; it’s very pretty. The house feels even more natural and earthy because of this.
