James Brown and Betty Jean Newsome wrote the famous soul and R&B song “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,” which saw its first recording in 1966. The song was a major success, peaking at number one on the R&B charts and eighth on the Billboard Hot 100. Brown’s impassioned delivery, along with the song’s poignant lyrics, helped it become a timeless success.
So when Jimi Bellmartin came onto The Voice: Senior stage to pursue his blind desire, he had some huge shoes to fill. And boy, did he ever fill them! He is just amazing! In his distinctive hat and tunic, he immediately captivates the judges and crowd.
This audition from the first season of the senior version is by far one of the most incredible performances I’ve ever seen. Jimi was a 65-year-old singer-songwriter from California who performed in a variety of genres, such as blues, country, rock, and jazz. Throughout the program, Jimi stunned the judges with his creative takes on famous tunes.
