Couple who bought two Teslas and drove 500 miles a week left in astonishment after comparing their energy expenses

A couple took it upon themselves to crunch the statistics and calculate how much it cost them to run two Tesla automobiles after only 500 kilometers.

The cost of operating electric vehicles (EVs) continues to pique many people’s interest, although just 4% of cars registered today use electricity, according to Heycar.

Most electric cars have a shorter range than the average gasoline automobile, but the price difference may be greater than you realize.

Petrolheads may claim that the roar of a V8 engine is what they seek in their ideal automobile, but the truth is that more young people are turning toward ecologically aware electric or hybrid vehicle alternatives.

But if you’re only worried about cost, look no further: while electric cars depreciate at the same rate as conventional vehicles, using them might save you a lot of money.

YouTube producer Mac’s Tech Toy Box took it upon himself to create a video detailing how he and his wife purchased Teslas and the impact it had on their finances.

Naturally, one would expect the automobiles’ energy consumption to significantly increase their monthly expenses.

But this is what actually happened.

Electricity bills before purchasing Teslas

The American content creator stated that they were filming in the summer months of 2022, which meant that the air conditioning was turned on more than normal.

He claimed that during the first five months of living in their house without the EVs, their power cost averaged $225 (£184).

Mac added that it accounted for “some highs and some lows,” considering that they were living in Florida during the late summer months.

What Tesla models did they buy?

While his wife purchased a four-door sedan, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, Mac purchased an SUV, the Tesla Model Y.

Due to the size of his vehicle, he stated that the Model Y was charged most nights of the week, which was far more than his wife’s automobile.

How did their bill alter as they used the Teslas?

He told me, “The bill actually went down—$214 (£175), down from the $225 that it was prior, which is interesting.”

Mac noted that during the summer months of this new time, with the air conditioning on and the vehicles charging, the price was $267.32 (£219).

“Ok, so that’s quite an increase from the $214 with just me, but only slightly more expensive than that average of $225 from before I got any electric vehicle,” the person who uploaded the video noted.

Bill compared gasoline cars

He further said that they used to spend about $320 (£262) each month on gas for their prior autos.

Essentially, the couple is saving a significant amount of money with the Teslas, as their monthly bill has only increased by $50, a significant decrease from the amount they previously spent on fuel.

Mac offered this tip: “If you are looking at purchasing a Tesla and you are worried about how much your bill is going to increase, I don’t think that’s something you need to take into account.”
