Gregg Wallace has produced a video message following the announcement that he is leaving MasterChef after 19 years due to an inquiry into claims of misconduct.
Wallace, 60, revealed earlier today (November 28) that he will be leaving the BBC culinary series.
Banijay, MasterChef’s producer, issued the following statement: “This week, the BBC received complaints from individuals regarding historical allegations of misconduct while working with presenter Gregg Wallace on one of our shows.”
“While these complainants did not directly raise the claims with our program producers or parent company Banijay UK, we believe it is necessary to conduct an early, external investigation to completely and impartially investigate.
“While this assessment is underway, Gregg Wallace will stand down from his role on MasterChef and has promised to fully participate in the process.
“Banijay UK always prioritizes its duty of care to employees, clearly communicating our standards for behavior to both cast and crew on all projects, and explicitly advertising several options to report problems, including anonymously, on set.
“Whilst these are historical allegations, incidences brought to our attention where these expectations are not met are thoroughly investigated and addressed appropriately.”
The press release continued: “If anyone would like to talk to us or raise any issues or concerns, then they can contact [email protected] in confidence.”
Wallace has finally broken his silence on the topic. Wallace posted an Instagram video today, expressing his gratitude to everyone who has reached out and shown their support.
“That’s kind of you.” Thank you so much.”
The BBC has recently reported that thirteen people, including presenter Kirsty Wark, have lodged claims against Wallace.
Following the announcement, musician Rod Stewart slammed Wallace on Instagram, accusing the broadcaster of bullying.
He shared his announcement via a black-and-white text message, writing, “So Greg [sic] Wallace is sacked from MasterChef.
“Good riddance, Wallace… You insulted my wife during her appearance on the show, but you have since edited it out, correct?
“You are a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got you.” Sir Rod Stewart.”
Lancaster participated in Celebrity MasterChef season 16 in 2021, making it to the quarterfinals before losing.
