The Australian non-profit YGAP has started a new campaign to raise awareness and finances to prevent child sexual assault, with an emphasis on men, who commit 90% of these crimes.

The “Polished Man” initiative urges men to polish one of their fingernails to demonstrate their support, with the goal of generating cash for trauma prevention and rehabilitation programs for children.

Male celebrities such as Chris Hemsworth and Michael Klim, as well as Hollywood actor Zac Efron, have joined the campaign by posting images of their painted nails on social media with the hashtags #PolishedMan and #nailedit.

The Polished Man platform has now collected over $513,000 in donations from 61,000 people, with significant corporations also pitching in. The cash generated will go toward trauma prevention and treatment programs for children who have been sexually abused.
The campaign’s slogan, “Nail it to End It,” encourages individuals to raise awareness and donate one polished nail at a time. While women are welcome to participate, the emphasis is on males because statistics show that men commit the bulk of sexual assaults against minors. The campaign will run through the 15th of October.
