Iman celebrates 33rd wedding anniversary with the late David Bowie in emotional post

David Bowie may be gone, but Iman’s passion for him endures.

The 69-year-old actress and model tweeted a heartfelt post on what would have been her 33rd wedding anniversary to the English singer-songwriter, who died in 2016 of liver cancer.

In an Instagram post, Iman uploaded a photo with the caption, “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.” She captioned the photo “#BowieForever” and “#ImanDaily.”

The couple met and fell in love after being set up on a blind date in 1990. Only two years later, the “Heroes” singer proposed to the model on the banks of the Seine. They married on April 24, 1992, in a modest ceremony in Lausanne, Switzerland, then had a larger wedding a few months later. In August 2000, they welcomed their daughter, Alexandria Zahra Jones.

Despite the music star’s death, Iman has kept their love alive throughout the years by paying emotional tributes to her late husband and celebrating him as if he were still alive today.

“I still feel married,” Iman told PEOPLE back in November 2021. “A few years ago, someone referred to David as my late spouse, to which I said, ‘No, he’s not.’ He is my spouse. “My love lives on in my memories.”

She reaffirmed this last year in an interview with InStyle, claiming that she frequently corrects people who refer to Bowie as her “late husband,” explaining that “he’s ever-present with me.”

“It’s because he made an impact on my life,” Iman explained. “He was the ideal guy for me, and I’m grateful that I was able to experience that in my lifetime. And I want everyone could enjoy that one moment in their lives.”

In a 2022 interview with Hoda Kotb for SiriusXM Today Show Radio, Iman claimed she thinks of Bowie “every day and every minute.”

“I have a necklace I’m wearing under here that has his name on it; [a] designer who is a friend of ours called Hedi Slimane sent me this, and I’ve worn it since that first week after David passed away,” explained the actress. “Yeah, I think of him all the time.”

“There are days that are more difficult than others, but the memories are not all sad about why the person isn’t here,” Iman said in a 2021 interview with PEOPLE. “The memories are now of how great it was.”

“Sometimes I have to remind myself that I have 26 years. So I have something to keep me going,” she explained. She did, however, mention that “my love lives” in her “memory.”
