During an interview, Javier Bardem received praise for his response to an unpleasant question about working with his wife. A journalist made a sexist remark during a press conference for one of Javier Bardem’s films, Everybody Knows, in 2018, which angered the veteran actor. In the Spanish-language film, he co-stars with Penélope Cruz and Argentine actor Ricardo Darín, rather than playing her partner. Bardem has appeared in various films with his wife, including Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Jamón, and The Counselor, to mention a few.
The couple apparently began dating in 2007, but have always stayed out of the spotlight, preferring to keep their romance secret despite their Hollywood renown. After marrying in the Bahamas in 2010, the couple has had two children: a son, Leo, born in 2011, and a daughter, Luna, born in 2013. Fans have praised their mutual respect and affection, which was particularly evident during a 2018 press conference with Bardem, when he responded admirably to a reporter’s inquiry. Off camera, the journalist questioned the actor, translated from Spanish: “How do you feel about being the only man in the world who enjoys working with his wife?” Initially, the question lacked intelligence and politeness, but it transpired that Cruz was also a member of the panel. The audience chuckled uncomfortably as Bardem initially appeared unimpressed before boldly responding.

The audience applauded and cheered when the Eat Pray Love actress simply stated, “The question is of extremely bad taste.” This moment went viral on social media, as countless others agreed with his reaction and attitude towards the topic, taking to X to express their feelings. One person wrote, “The gist of the inquiry is legitimate.” Do you enjoy working with your wife?” Simple. However, the ‘reporter’ had to editorialize and shade, of course.” Another said, “Right answer.” I adore this guy. “ALL MACHO AND BETTER FOR IT.”
A third person commented, “This man is truly one of the most pleasant people I have ever encountered!” True gentleman.” Another user mentioned a previous film, saying, “The man didn’t understand the joke and briefly switched to Anton Chigurh.”
Another user commented, “This is what a feminist looks like.”
It’s safe to say that Bardem gained the respect of many that day.
