Anderson Cooper couldn’t contain his laughter during Sunday night’s CNN New Year’s Eve special, all thanks to John Mayer’s playful antics at a Tokyo cat bar.
Cooper, alongside his friend Andy Cohen for their annual broadcast, witnessed the 46-year-old musician make a brief appearance via video call from a Japanese establishment filled with felines.
As Mayer’s video feed displayed him surrounded by cats, Cooper burst into uncontrollable laughter. Cohen, 55, remarked, “John, this doesn’t look sanitary,” prompting Mayer to respond, “You know what, I believe it passes all health codes; I think it’s just fine.”
Despite Cohen’s attempt to bring some seriousness to the situation, Cooper continued to laugh as Mayer explained that he was celebrating 2024 at Tokyo’s Cats in the Box.
Curious, Cohen asked Mayer to share more about his experience at the bar. Mayer sarcastically clarified, “There are cats. This is a place you can come, enjoy a drink or two, and talk to cats. It’s a cat bar. I mean, I don’t know how much more clear I can be about the objective of this place.”
However, it wasn’t just Mayer’s humorous delivery and the peculiar surroundings that tickled Cooper. After Cohen described him as being “gone” and “off with the fairies” during his fit of laughter, he explained, “Just the shot of the cat’s ass in your face is making him delirious.”
The segment continued with Mayer feeding treats to the cats, the hosts guessing a cat’s name, and Mayer promoting his new SiriusXM channel.
In other parts of the live broadcast, Cohen praised Cooper for being a “great” and “attentive” father. Cooper, a father of two sons, Wyatt Morgan (3) and Sebastian Luke (1), with ex Benjamin Maisani, acknowledged the compliment, while Cohen, a father of two, acknowledged Cooper’s parenting skills.
