Madonna has the ideal answer after discovering she’s related to Pope Leo

Surprisingly, Madonna has recently discovered a startling genealogical connection: she shares a relationship with Pope Leo!

Since her debut in 1982, the Queen of Pop has had a tumultuous history with the Catholic Church.

The ‘Like a Virgin’ singer was raised and confirmed Catholic; nonetheless, her creative expression has landed her in hot water with the Catholic Church.

Madonna has frequently employed Catholic symbolism in her work, from wearing crucifix jewelry with a bra and mesh top in the 1980s to kissing a saint in the ‘Like a Prayer’ video and singing while strapped to a cross on her Confessions tour.

Pope John Paul II once urged the public not to attend her 1990 Blonde Ambition Tour, calling it ‘one of the most satanic shows in the history of humanity,’ while Cardinal Ersilio Tonini called her 2006 Confessions Tour a ‘blasphemous challenge to the faith and a profanation of the cross’ (via The Guardian).

Hopefully, the current Pope, Leo XIV, who was elected on May 8, 2025, is a Rebel Heart, as he is linked to the music legend.

Their relationship was revealed in a new interactive story published by The New York Times in partnership with American Ancestors and the Cuban Genealogy Club of Miami.

The investigation exposes Pope Leo XIV’s pedigree on both his mother’s and father’s lines, with Madonna and the Pope having a common Canadian ancestor, Louis Boucher de Grandpre, who was born in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.

He also has renowned ‘Canadian-derived distant relatives,’ including Angelina Jolie, Hillary Clinton, Justin Bieber, Jack Kerouac, Pierre, and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

That seems like a fascinating family reunion.

To commemorate this new familial link, Madonna posted a photo with her father, Silvio Ciccone, recalling her legendary single ‘Vogue.’

“Silvio! We are related to the Pope! Strike a posture.” Madonna captioned the black and white photo.

Madonna attempted to restore her connection with the Catholic Church three years ago by contacting Pope Francis, who died on April 21 this year.

The vocalist from ‘The Confessions on a Dance Floor’ tweeted, “I’m a good Catholic.” I swear! I mean, I don’t swear. It had been several decades since my last confession.

“Is it feasible to meet one day to address some significant issues? I’ve faced excommunication on three occasions. It doesn’t appear fair. Sincerely, Madonna.

Fingers crossed Madonna and Pope Leo get along.
