Two teenagers bring an older audience back in time with their captivating old-school dance skills

They move so fluidly!
When you think of dancing nowadays, you think of TikTok and the various viral tunes that they utilize to create distinct moves that later become challenges.

Dance steps change, and while we attempt to accept new styles of dancing, certain youngsters still prefer to shag.

What exactly is Shag dancing, and why is it so popular?
Shag dancing is a sort of swing dance that was popular in the 1930s and 1940s. The dance is a blend of quick footwork and enticing rhythm and blues music.

You’ve undoubtedly seen shag dancing in old movies, and you might even recall doing it to the tunes that popularized it.

The Shag dance was named the official state dance of South Carolina in 1984, and the NSDC was created.

The NSDC, or National Shag Dance Championships, has hosted its yearly event since then and is currently the longest-running shag dance competition in the United States.

The National SHAG Dance Championship celebrated its 38th year this year.

The only year they did not attend was last year. It was due to the limits imposed as a result of the increasing occurrences of COVID-19.

One of the pairings that participated in the March 2022 NSDC was published on YouTube by Stages Video Productions. Trinity Davis and Mack West competed and won the Junior II Division as well as the overall title for this year’s tournament!

It’s no surprise that Mack West won this year’s shag dance. Shag dance is, after all, in their blood. Mack’s father, Sam, mother, Lisa, and sister, Sydney, had all taken part in the coveted competition.

Dancers in the “junior” shag dance category must be under the age of 21.
The duet chose the Chubby Checker song “Pony Time,” which was quite catchy. If the beat seems familiar, it’s because Checker previously sang the hit song “Let’s Twist Again.”

Mack’s footwork was terrific and faultless, as expected. His motions appear to be light, yet he never skipped a beat.

Their dancing moves were so intricate that you were afraid they’d trip over each other. However, they appear to be dancing in the air because they are experts.

If you’re a fan of these two young Shag dance gurus, you’ll know that this isn’t their first time winning. They’ve been dancing for a long time, and each year they surprise their audience with new movements.

Trinity and Mack won the Grand National competition for the Junior Shag Category in 2017.
Following the dance, some members of the crowd came up and gave them a standing ovation, and they smiled as they hugged.

They didn’t simply compete; they also enjoyed themselves.

You may be unaware of the long history of Shag dancing, but viewing these two great dancers is well worth your time.

Who knows, you could fall in love with shag dancing as well.
