A new documentary on Jackass actor Bam Margera has recently been published, which details his life, problems with addiction, and legal guardianship.
The Curious Case of… Bam Margera explores Margera’s struggles over the years as a skateboarder and stunt performer grappling with addiction.
According to the documentary, Margera’s family attempted an intervention with him in 2021, but he refused, prompting them to seek aid from Lima Jevremovic, who was appointed his guardian in June of that year.
The #FreeBam movement later claimed that Jevremovic’s guardianship wasn’t helping him, and she prominently features in the documentary teaser when she tries to speak with Margera and receives an order to leave.
Steve-O, Margera’s Jackass co-star, has also contributed to the documentary and has shown worry for his pal on several occasions.
In the documentary, Steve-O expressed that observing Margera’s battle with addiction has been ‘painful’. He stated that when they initially met, he had no interest in drug abuse. However, Steve-O battled his issues for years before achieving sobriety, and now the roles have reversed.
“People love a good comeback story, but is that going to happen, or will he die first? “I don’t know,” he said.
Margera had a close encounter with death a few years ago when he appeared on Steve-O’s Wild Ride! podcast and stated that he ‘essentially was pronounced dead’ on December 8, 2022.
Margera said he had “gnarly COVID” and suffered from “four convulsions,” in which he nearly bit his tongue off. The hospital placed him on life support and kept him there for many days.
Steve-O, who has had his own health issues, brought Margera on tour with him for a period, claiming he was really f***ing scared about him’ as he introduced his co-star onto the stage.
“It’s become extremely uncomfortable to be braced for the news of your death, Bam,” Steve-O stated, bringing Margera on stage.
“I have been preparing myself for that devastating news, and I am simply unable to bear it, man.”
“So I wanted you to come on tour with me, remain close, see what’s possible, and help you put together your own act.
“You’ve got the arc. You have a wealth of entertaining pieces, jokes, and stories. Everything lacks significance unless it culminates in a happy and healthy outcome, where you become a good father and excel in your work. And that is what I want for you, brother.
Regrettably, on the last day of the tour, Margera started criticizing Jackass actor Johnny Knoxville and director Jeff Tremaine, with Steve-O asserting that Margera ‘confessed that it was because he was intoxicated.’
Steve-O seemed to be hoping his pal would receive the ‘comeback tale’ he mentioned, despite his fear of what may happen.
