Carrie Underwood, 41, stunned fans with an unexpected performance at an NFL game in Tennessee on Sunday, November 3.
The country music superstar joined fellow “American Idol” judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and presenter Ryan Seacrest at Nissan Stadium for a game between the New England Patriots and the Tennessee Titans.
The “American Idol” cast embraced the Titans enthusiasm, donning team clothing and encouraging supporters with a rousing “Titan Up!” shout from the field. The Titans posted a video of the group on social media with the comment, “@AmericanIdol is in the house with a special surprise!” “Watch everything unfold in Spring ’25 on ABC!”
The post soon gained momentum, eliciting excitement and a rush of replies. While fans were ecstatic to see Underwood at the game, some couldn’t resist making comments about her appearance.
Critics emerged, asserting that her appearance was unrecognizable and speculating about possible alterations to her looks. One person quickly commented, “She has done much to her face. Do not look the same [sic].”
A second user commented, “Nobody can convince me that’s Carrie Underwood.” One spectator even asked, “Who’s that blonde girl?” Others believed it may be a “lookalike.”
Nonetheless, faithful fans of the “Before He Cheats” singer responded quickly to the criticism. One fan said, “Carrie Underwood = IDOL QUEEN 😍.” Someone wrote, “Carrie is bringing the energy,” while another added, “QUEEN CARRIE 👑👏🏼.”
While Underwood’s surprising presence at the NFL game elicited mixed emotions, the singer has been candid about her struggle with her appearance, particularly her dental work.
In a previous interview with Women’s Health, Underwood explained that her experience with braces began in her teens but did not end there. Like many others, she admitted to ignoring her retainer, which caused some movement in her teeth over time.
Determined to rectify the change, Carrie Underwood returned to the orthodontist as an adult. “I had one tooth that was driving me crazy,” she told the magazine, adding, “It’s such a minor issue, but it’s only going to get worse, so let’s fix it now.”
When it comes to self-care, Underwood values consistency. She is conscious of what she drinks and eats, as well as how she keeps active, since she understands how important they are to her overall health.
Underwood does not profess to be flawless when it comes to fitness. She once acknowledged that she isn’t the best at warm-ups and cool-downs. Still, she tries to keep to her regimen, even if it involves a little coffee.
In addition to prioritizing self-care, Underwood is making significant strides in her career. She recently took over as a judge on “American Idol,” succeeding Katy Perry and embarking on an exciting new chapter. However, not all viewers have welcomed the shift, with some expressing dissatisfaction.
Netizens expressed concerns about the show’s lack of diversity in the musical genres represented by its judges. One viewer said, “I do not believe Carrie is a positive decision. We already have a county judge. So, we have two countries and one contemporary?” There are no pop genre judges.”
Another individual expressed a similar concern: “I wish they would have replaced Katy with another pop singer; there is too much country influence in the judging.” A netizen echoed this, pointing out the necessity for performers from diverse genres “to balance out” the judges.
One critic expressed frustration, asking for a relevant pop artist. Carrie simply isn’t offering anything.
Some fans, however, were overjoyed to see Underwood take on the role alongside Bryan and Richie. One fan commented on Underwood’s talent and expressed excitement to watch her advise hopefuls with other judges.
Another person concurred, saying, “Katy was fine, but I’m so glad Carrie Underwood is the replacement.” Someone who recognizes outstanding skill!”
Still, not everyone is convinced of the shift. “No one can effectively replace Katie Perry.” Especially not Carrie Underwood. “Won’t be watching anymore—so disappointing [sic],” one disgruntled fan stated. Another user simply stated that Underwood was a “bad replacement” for Perry.
Despite some criticism, some believe Underwood’s experience is a welcome contribution. One fan said that, while they like Perry’s energetic personality, having a previous winner as a judge is a “good thing.”
The program that launched Underwood’s music career two decades ago revealed her as the next judge at the beginning of August.

Underwood auditioned as a competitor in 2004 and won the competition the next year. “Today, I am now one of those judges who are searching for someone who aspires to be an idol,” she wrote on Instagram.
Underwood discussed her decision to return to the program, which elicited varied emotions from fans. “It feels like going home,” she remarked, noting that many of the individuals who worked on the program years ago are still on the crew now.
Underwood also discussed her relationship with the show. It’s part of me and my history, so hopefully, I can bring that into my advice for the people in front of us “Underwood thought.
Underwood feels she can provide the participants with her unique perspective after reflecting on how her experiences as a contestant and a star will impact her job as a judge. “Having experienced both sides, I believe I can provide valuable insight, assistance, and a unique perspective,” the woman expressed.
However, Underwood acknowledged one obstacle she would face, saying, “I can’t lie. I simply can’t. “You can tell.” She told supporters that, while she aims to be frank, she would endeavor to provide constructive and uplifting input.
