The strength of their opponents led to the elimination of some talented competitors from the Australian edition of The Voice midway through the competition. Lexi X, a fifteen-year-old saxophonist and vocalist from Brisbane, was one of the participants in the show’s twelfth season. Lexi could not proceed past the Battles round despite her obvious talent, but her blind audition, which was seen by over one million people, is absolutely extraordinary.
Levi gave a poignant performance of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” during his audition, adding his own vocal expression and superb saxophone talents. All four judges on the show were enthralled by his performance from the time he began singing. Jessica Mauboy listened with her eyes closed, while Jason Derulo nodded along with the music. But Rita Ora, who danced in her seat to Levi’s songs, appeared to be the most captivated by his performance.
In light of this, it’s no surprise that Rita was the first judge to utilize her button, allowing her to turn around and see Levi’s look. When Rita realized how young Levi was, her jaw dropped, prompting fellow judge Jason to press his button in an attempt to persuade Levi to join his side. Levi eventually opted to join Rita’s group, which featured other contenders like future winner Tarryn Stokes, in part because she seemed to enjoy his singing style.
Rita was also a fan of Overnight, the five-piece boyband from season 12 of The Voice Australia. During their blind audition, they sang a version of the Backstreet Boys’ “Larger than Life.” Rita was so taken with the group that when they appeared, she danced in delight and pressed her button seconds after they began performing. Overnight convinced all four judges to vote with Judge Guy Sebastian at the end of the day.
