Unconditional love. Loving lovers do everything it takes to aid their mate. Despite the odds, most of them keep going. This anecdote perfectly illustrates profound love.
Zhang Xiaoyu, 22, was a college student in Bengbu, Anhui, 10 years ago. Her lover, Zhang Jiafeng, graduated from college a year earlier and found job before leaving.
They had many ideas after a year together. Xiaoyu was unexpectedly diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a brain fluid buildup in the ventricles.
She had a stroke during an emergency surgery and went into a coma.
To make matters worse, the doctor advised Jiafeng that Xiaoyu’s return is impossible to foresee. He looked after Xiaoyu since he wasn’t ready to say goodbye to his love.
He knew disability care was difficult. If unobserved, the person could die from lung infection and starvation.
Jiafeng said, “When we fell in love, we had so many plans once we get married shortly.
I will always be kind to her, and I must accompany her.”
Both of Jiafeng’s parents appreciated his choices as an adult. Yet, Xiaoyu’s parents were sad. They don’t want to bother him with this situation because they haven’t tied the knot yet.
Jiafeng denied this and stated he would hold Xiaoyu as long as she breathed.
Every morning at 6:00, Jiafeng cleans and changes Xiaoyu’s diapers. After that, he feeds her a liquid breakfast through a nose tube and rubs her legs and feet. Xiaoyu’s family is active.
Her father worked, her mother was sick, and her younger brother went to school. Jiafeng took care of Xiaoyu because of this.
“Every two hours, I help her change over, and then I try to keep her from lying on her back.”
Jiafeng would sit by Xiaoyu’s bedside and converse or sing after doing chores. He never gave up hope that the woman who would become his love would return.
A miracle occurred after 500 days. ц “I’m very happy!” exclaimed Jiafeng. After so long, my heart’s thorn was removed. I’m relieved.”
As she slowly opened her eyes, Xiaoyu whispered, “I saw him when I opened my eyes, and I called his name very gently.”
During her nearly two-year coma, Xiaoyu’s weight decreased to 30 kilos and her memory was very poor. Despite her hard road to recovery, Jiafeng remained optimistic.
The hardest part was over, he thought. Jiafeng believed they would get through Xiaoyu’s rehabilitation together.
After years of rehab, Xiaoyu was able to stand and walk in 2011. In 2012, they married. Family and close friends were there, and it was a wonderful occasion.
Xiaoyu needed Brain Shunt Surgery after the wedding to drain cerebrospinal fluid and redirect it to another part of the body for resorption.
Xiaoyu needed this operation since her cerebrospinal fluid wasn’t reabsorbed adequately. Despite his low income, Jiafeng wanted to help with finances.
Xiaoyu replied, “He is economical with himself yet generous with me.” “He’ll satisfy all my requests.”
“Of course, my girlfriend has to dress up when she goes out, but I don’t see the need in buying fine attire for myself,” Jiafeng remarked.
Because I didn’t offer her enough, I’ll always feel like I owe her. We don’t own a house, therefore I haven’t given her a suitable home.
“The most essential thing is that the two of us are together,” Xiaoyu assured Jiafeng.
Following the media’s coverage of Jiafeng and Xiaoyu’s story, many online users offered to donate or contribute to the couple’s expenses, but the couple declined.
Despite their low income, they say they can take care of themselves and be happy. A local volunteer club and various charities and community service projects demonstrate the couple’s community involvement.
Jiafeng and Xiaoyu may not have much money, but they have many people who love and trust them, and they want to spread more love to touch everyone’s hearts!
